I'm outfitting my rifle - an LMT MWS 16" CL, .308.

I'm at the point where I'm shopping for scope and bipod mounts. The scope is going to be S&B the bipod an Atlas.

I'm just a regular guy not high speed tactical. I plan on using this rifle mostly from the bench or on my belly. Perhaps once or twice during the warm months (New England) I will strip the optic and bipod to shoot with the LMT iron sights in a 3 position known distance match. I am not currently into 3 gun or more dynamic competitions.

My current train of thought is that I'm good to go with machine screw mounts for these accesories. A Spuhr base for the scope and the Atlas 2 machine screw picatinny mount would serve me well. The MWS comes with a tourque wrench so if I get the right nut or allen drivers I should have the means readily available to torque down my various mounts.

Those of you with experience, any reason I should consider a QD mount like GDI for the scope or the Atlas ARMS 17S option?

I already realize that for maintenance it could be nice to strip off the attachments to clean all the nooks and crannies but my cleaning philosophy is detail strip once a year and concentrate on a good barrel/bolt wipe down after each range session. With QD mounts I'll always have the feeling that once an item is removed I will never get it back at zero when reattached.

Any advantage to QD I'm missing? Again I'm just a hobby shooter. I dont envision my scope taking a dump on me when the zombie horde is approaching and I will lose precious moments digging my tourque wrench out from the bottom of my shooting bag but if there are strong considerations for going with QD I'll certainly go that way.

The few things I've read on this topic have said that QD mounts are more accurate when removed and replaced. Hopefully someone who knows a bit more will address that, because I'd like to know that as well.

Because all the cool kids have them, what better reason is there?

Personally I hate having a bipod attached when I'm not using it, or planning to in the near future, and QD means one less tool. QD optics are really only advantageous if your life depends on your shooting, you need to be able to minimize the size of your firearm, and/or you enjoy shooting with optics and irons in the same session. If that's not you screws are fine, and allot less likely to be unintentionally released.

    I guess I'm Bi.

I went with Spuhr (machine screws) for the scope and QD for the atlas.

I went qd for atlas so i can swap between rifles easily at the range.

On my MWS I have the USO rings and my Atlas is attached to the rifle non-QD. I have decided my rifle will stay set up this way...I have no reason now to set up the rifle for any QD accessories or scope mount.

From what you have said there is no reason I can see that you would need QD unless you just want it.
