I just picked up a OBR and it came with this mount. I have no experience with detachable mounts. Is this mount worth using or should I go with a fixed mount? I am wondering how well this mount will retain a zero if removed and re attached? Not that I plan on taking it off. What are you guys using to mount up your scopes on the OBR?

They are ok. I had two and am now down to one. The return to zero is hit or miss, I suggest checking every time.
The only real problem I saw was the marking of the rails and the loosening of the throw levers. When the throw levers loosen, they lose the zero. You will also have to check them often as they loose contact surface the more you take them on and off.
They work well if you just tighten down the throw levers and leave them on the rifle (of course that negates the purpose of QD)
YMMV

Mine works great. Just ensure you push forward on your scope/rings to ensure it is seated correctly (forward due to the reaction of the recoil).

It works dandy. You might get a wee bit of shift, but we always confirm zero anyway. I'm not shifting scopes often, rather only for a given purpose where it would stay on the whole time it's in use for that intended purpose. A 5.5x22 for a dedicated varmint hunt verses a 2.5x10 for deer and general usage rig. I'm a nasty civilian now, so that's no big deal.

That begs the question of whether a soldier in combat would want to pull his big scope off to use an aimpoint for example while patrolling and then expect to put the scope back on once he is static on a support position and expect to get first round hits at 1,0000 yards without reconfirming zero. Probably would not be optimal, but even then the shift would probably only be 1/2 MOA at most, so you could easily adjust followup shots if multiple shots were going to occur in a prolonged engagement in a support role.

Every LaRue QD I have owned has amazed me.

Not really keen on the screw arrangement, can be a bit tedious to get the optic in there.

But once in, it is just top notch. The return to zero has been dead on on each one I have owned, which is a bunch.

I have a compact NF mounted on an HCS RECCE right now. Zeroed it at 100 a couple trips ago. Took it off 3-4 times in between, and last Saturday mounted it back up and it was perfect at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Literally dead on. LT makes some of the best gear I have used and their CS and warranty is unsurpassed.

I appreciate all the input, after reading the replies I think i will go ahead and use the mount and see how it goes.

I just picked up this mount 2 weeks ago and I am using a NF 5.5-22x56 on it, You will not be disappointed! This was my first Larue mount purchase but will certainly not be my last!

i use the mount on my bolt rifle and it is awesome for me, pushing the scope forward before clamping it down and there isn't much shift at all but i check it every time just to be sure, i will say if i build or buy another rifle and scope i'll use another obr mount

Doesn't that sit pretty high on a bolt gun?
