I bought FFL123, but I heard home FFL's are not being granted much at all these days, is this true?

Re: Home FFL

depends on your locale whether or not the parish/county allows firearm transfers on non commercial property

Re: Home FFL

typically it is who you need to speak to about getting approval for a home office license. If you call the county/parish zoning office, they will be able to direct you to the rules online (in most cases) that cover home offices and that will have something in it about the storing & selling of firearms and fireworks if there is a restriction.

Re: Home FFL

In my municipality, you'd need to start by speaking with the township zoning administrator about running a home business.

Re: Home FFL

Yes, what they said, check with zoning laws. I spent a few hours looking it up Saturday. I had no clue when I first started researching it. A while later, it all made sense. For where I live in the country, we're zone GA (General Agriculture)which means I need to get a Conditional use Permit. There are other regulations, like my business can't be larger than 40% of my home etc. Some time spent on your area's website will make sense to you. I'm going through the same thing. The ATF has a helpful site: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-to/become-an-ffl.html

Your AG? You'll be good to go with ATF if the county says yes. Put the shop in an out building with late hours (4p.m. -9p.m.). That's how the "farm" gun shops do it near me. Funny how a 10x20 shed can move $700,000 in firearms a year. Low overhead is king!

I will tell you this it's not easy being a home ffl. I talk to guys all the time, at least 2 a month, who once had FFL01s out of their homes.

Regardless of what you hear, and regardless of what the rules "say". The ATF might grant you a license to satisfy the legality of the issue, but in the long run I wouldn't count on holding it long.

You would not believe the horror stories I have heard from guys who once had their FFL01 and worked from home. The excuses are a dime a dozen why they will pull your license. I don't care what the books say ... if they don't want you to have a license ... they will pull it.

To make a long story short. I have heard of everything from the ATF agent fabricating all out lies, and reporting them, or to doing a 'criminal gun trace' to an FFL just because they read their FFL license # in a distributors books. Believe me ... I could tell you some real horror stories, but will spare you the time now. If you're interested ... PM me.

Finally, with the stories I've heard from once FFL01 holders, you would believe that the whole reason for the ATFs existence was to keep guns out of EVERY American's hands. No joke!

At any rate, whatever you do, never ever ever fall for the "If you agree to never apply for another FFL01 we will not prosecute!" line. It's around every corner, and more prominent than you think. I'm beginning to wonder if it's included in the ATF Field Agent training manual!

I'm AG. We have a farm, recently sold our animals, then leased out the land. My plan is for online gunsales ,and by appointment is what I'm after, as long as the county OK's it. They've been very helpful so far!

Re: Home FFL

Did u ever get it figured out? I'm looking into this too

Re: Home FFL

I can tell you from my experience when you fill out your FFL application they ask for store hours, and by appointment don't cut it. The basic steps I went though was to check with county admin and get the okay to run a gun business out of the home, then call your state ATF home office and get the paperwork sent to you, fill it out, get fingerprints, 2 passport photos, send copy to local sheriff (chief law enforcement officer) then mail everything to ATF. Wait several months, have interview with your ATF rep, once he approved and you get your license in the mail, go down to local admin office and get business license. THEN start your business rolling, and don't forget some type of insurance to protect your personal life from your gun life

Wholesalers and manufacturers mostly refuse to sell to home based FFL’s or individuals with an FFL. Would it be beneficial to have a list of home based friendly resources and inside sales contacts to call directly to get an account setup without a rejections when you apply for an account?

ATF meeting before license issuance can last 5 to 6 hours, would it be beneficial to have an outline of everything they will discuss with bullet points and references to read and review before they arrive? Often taking the meeting down to less than 1 hour and having an ATF employee highly impressed with your knowledge and preparedness.

ATF requires record keeping in a book or electrically. Would it be beneficial to have an ATF approved program that complies 100% with ATF requirements that works in MS Excel? Get a 20% discount on the bestselling A&D book online?
