Hi all! New member from Norway in Europe here
smile.gif

A friend of mine has a .338 Lapua Mag, and is steady on at 1500- 2200 meters with this one.
I am looking into a new rifle myself, and would like to kick his butt with something bigger and at least equally good range caliber. My motto is "bigger is better", and I get quite a bit of pepper over this

I drive a Chevrolet CrewCab K3500 pickup, while other shake their heads over me in their small Mitsubishi and Mazda Pickups

The 50 caliber is not allowed for sivil use over here, so I thought I'd look into a .375 Weatherby Magnum, as another friend of mine has a receiver and a barrel in this caliber that I can get for a very reasonable sum of money.
What do you guys and gals think? Am I way off here, or can I make it? Are there any good bullets in this caliber, and not those chunks of brass you normally think of when you hear .375? I reload all my rounds myself.
Thanks in advance!!

Roy,

You have it right. Bullets are the key to pure accuracy. I know of no 375's that will shoot as accurately as the 338's. Likewise I know of no 338's that will shoot as accurately as the 30's.

I have some ideas why the 338's aren't as accurate as the 30's but I'm still in the testing stages.

Good luck

Get a Barrett .416 and let my know how it shoots.lol ya some them cal bullets are not the best in shape.

Re: 375 WM vs 338LM.... I want to kick 338LM's butt ;)

It depends on how far your shootinga nd at what.

I love the 338 Lapua and have had great success to 1500 yards. Just never get chance to shoot farther than that. I used to think like Dave that the 338s just did not group that well until I bought a TRG42 and discovered 92.4 grains of N570 with a 30 Scenar. That combo is a freaking tack driver.

Had both 375 and 408 Chey Tacs. Great rifles but cost kicked my rump and worried about getting materials when company went tits up

Buddy has 416 Barrett and it shoots just under 1moa with good ammo but blast and weight is that of a 50BMG so unless you live in Cal where 50s are bad the 416 does not make as much sense

Out to 1000 yards Daves statement is very true but I'm not to sure about the longer ranges?

Thanx a lot folks!!

We are not allowed to shoot anything bigger than .400 caliber over here in Norway. I got a tip about a caliber called 338-375 WM. Never heard of it over here...
blush.gif
Could that be it?

I guess bullets would be easier to get as it obviously i a 338-bullet. Could this be a tad better than the 338 LM? The parent case would maybe be the 375 H&H...???

Anyone??

Thanx

Re: 375 WM vs 338LM.... I want to kick 338LM's butt ;)

I prefaced my reply by saying pure accuracy. Large heavy high BC bullets to some degree are more forgiving at extreme ranges. The big but is, with a large 30, heavy bullets and a good wind doper I'll bet on the 30 all the time. When conditions get such that the guy shooting the 30 can't deal with wind, guess what the guy with the 338 can't either. Heck I started shooting custom flat base bullets in 1K comp. Everyone laughed, for a while. That was the best shooting bullet I ever used. 338's have come a long ways but the 30's have the edge on accuracy for now even at distance. Now we can factor in other elements, like retained energy, impact signature and all things you get with bigger heavier bullets and the 338's are in the conversation. Hell it always gets back to everything is a compromise. Just get out and shoot, it's good for business.

Re: 375 WM vs 338LM.... I want to kick 338LM's butt ;)

You know. You can always get a 338LM and then beat your budy up on the range and you both will know its you and not the rifle cheating for you.Haha

And you can always go better on doing up a custom your self so its not at all the same.

I have to say Im just partial to the 338LM b/c I have one and love it. But yes me and my friends like doing the same things.

Here you will find everything you need, and from a good guy;

I have the 338 Snipetac and am very happy with it. Bullet availability/selection for long range is (still) a problem with the 375's.

Yeah, no kidding... Dave can fix you up, Sir. You want a 375 boomer... look no further.

If ya wanna kick a .338 Lapua Mags butt ya better get a .375 Cheytac. Or get a better .338 Lapua.
