Picked up my first suppressor last Friday. Got a chance to put some rounds through it this weekend. Loving it! Think I'm going to have to suppress all my weapons now.

It's an AWC thundertrap on a Remington 700 mil spec 308 with a 20" 5R barrel.

Makes shooting so much more enjoyable and is helping my accuracy tremendously.

I couldn't believe how quiet it was with Lapua subsonics. Down range noise is much more pronounced than the actual report.

Got a SilencerCo Sparrow 30 days behind this one for my 10/22 and Walther P22. Can't wait.

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

My 30 cal Thundertrapp was sold to my cousin after I shot the Ops Inc 12th on my rifle. The AWC was a good can, I didn't like the POI change on my rifle. I never ran sub sonics in the can. I just used regular loads..... That rifle (M24A2) and Ops Inc suppressor have been flawless!

Good to hear you are having good luck with your combination..... Have fun out there

. I hear the 5R is a great rifle. Are you hand loading? If so, what is the recipe? I use Varget and get 1/2 MOA to 800 yards...

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying...... The POI was ridiculous! There were no baffle
strikes.... I took the can back in and talked to Chris in person while I was buying another for the 1st Gen Barrett REC7. I assure you, i was told "you can expect" a POI
shift.. He further went on to say, something like, you can't hang a heavy piece of metal on the end and not to change the POI.... Partially, I agree, but by that difference, not acceptable. In all fairness, my Barrett can ran great, minimal POI shift. My HK can ran great too.... I still own it...... I didn't get to use it on my M24A2, they have different thread pitches.

The can was 2008-2009? I dont recall exactly.
Range: 100 yards!
Another Sako, no... I don't have any friends who one another one.

Just to clarify, if I took the can off immediately after and shot clovers at 100 yards!

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

Well this is not encouraging I was looking at getting one of these for my 300 winnie now thinkn of a tigershark

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

I have a Thundertrap on a 300WM and POI shift has never concerned me in the least...I never shoot without it on so I really dont care what it would be

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

A suppressor on a 10/22 wont do much of anything for you. All the noise is coming from the opening and closing of the action. It will work on a pistol with the shorter barrel but not so much on a 10/22.

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

Glad to hear you got your stamp! How long did it take ? Any words of wisdom for those of us sitting around waiting ?

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

Drink lots of beer to forget. Just kidding. The wait is the hardest. Especially on the first one. Hang in there. You will have it before you know it.

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

I shoot my 10/22 suppressed all the time. It is very quite with subs.

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

Shoot the subs with the can....
Then without and report the difference.... you won't find much of any.

It's the cycling of the action that screws you up.

You have no idea what your talking about or you experience is with a real shitty can.

Re: First Suppressor - TAX STAMP JUST IN

On all of mine (12) I think the difference is significant and very well worth the cost and time involved. PG

I've run and own more suppressors then you have ever seen..... Ive shot a Ruger 10/22 with 7 different 22 cans. I could not tell a huge audible difference with a 16" barrel. Ive run AR15's with 22 conversions with YHM Wraiths, Sparrows, AAC Element, and a YHM Mite. None of them metered much different. Your talking a few decibels difference. The action cycling messes a lot of that up. The barrel length has a huge factor on sound as well.

I never said not to do it. I just dont see a huge difference in a 16" rifle. If you go SBR or pistol, yes there is a huge difference.

I own 4 thread on .22 cans (aac element, liberty essence, silencerco ss sparrow, thompson machine wasp) and one integral. I have been to 3 silencer shoots and have demo plenty of others at my dealers. Im not sure if thats as many as you and I dont care. I do know with all of them there is a significant difference on a rifle shooting subs with a suppressor then without. If you say other wise now that I know your experience then your hearing is crap or your a liar period.

The first two suppressors (ones listed in this thread) I went through Dury's in San Antonio. I have since purchased a couple others from www.silencershop.com out of Austin. If silencershop has it in stock it is usually much cheaper than retail (Dury's). Both have great customer service.

Yam,

Cool your jets brother. KY is good to go. When it comes to suppressors he knows his shit-I have shot with him and he has amazing taste in cans, rifles, and scopes.
Not to mention the dude can shoot.

I have no idea who he is and im not saying he is not a good guy. I just dont like misinformation being spread and that is exactly what he is doing on this topic. Suppressed subsonic and unsuppressed subsonic is night and day difference in a rifle, its not even close. Sure it makes a bigger difference on pistols, but to say it barely makes a difference on rifles is a outright lie.
