Hello everyone, I am intending on buying a Remington 700 mispec 5, and I'd like to get a decent scope for it, but i don't want to break the bank. $600-700 would be my max for the scope. With time I want to try(emphasis on try) to push the rifle out to 1000m's, hopefully I've choose the correct rifle(suggestions on cheaper or better options for the rifle would also appreciated) So if anyone could help me with a scope it would be much appreciated and i thank them for there time.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Like ILya says in his article referenced above, the SS 3-9 is a damn fine scope for the money. Love mine. Comes with a no B.S. warranty too should you ever need it - lifetime.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Viper PST (slightly more expensive), SS 3-9, Weaver 3-15... Can't go wrong with any of these.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

I like my 3-15 Weaver a lot. I said in another post it isn't great in low light, (kinda started to strain my eyes around 8pm) but in the daylight it's fantastic. Did a comp this past weekend and with TONS of mirage I had no problems ranging a 16.5" target at 640 yards (I read 650, but was WAY high because I was a full turn off!!) and had no problems seeing and hitting 2MOA square plates at 800 and 900. Adjustments were all dead on; first round hits on flipper "hostage" targets at 450. I do wish I had a zero-stop like the Vortex.

These.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

I have a Falcon Menace 4-14x40 FFP that I have taken to Sniper School (LEO) and placed third in my class. It does have it's drawbacks but I feel that it held its own just fine.

I have also shot it out to 915 with no issues.

All this in on a 700 SPS with B&C A5 tactical and a 20 MOA base

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Thank you everyone for your helpful insights, but as this will be my first long range rifle, what would be a good magnification for ranges up to 1000m, cause honestly i have no idea.....

Depends on what you are trying to do. My personal preference for magnification at that range would be mid-to-high teens. If you want to be very precise, you might want more than that.

we have a winner

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

I was in the exact same boat you are, had a budget of 600-700. I went with the Weaver SS 3-15. I have been quite pleased with the performance for the price paid.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

i just purchased a Bushnell Elite Tactical it has very good reviews and a reasonable price i got the 6-24x50 with 30mm tube and a weaver 20MOA rail set up on my .308 from what i read the scope should have enough adjustment to get you to 1000yds

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Every single scope mentioned in this thread is a good recommendation, and will fill your needs. you are getting very good advice. let us know which way you go. Good luck,

Paulus

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

The 10x Super Sniper served me well for a long time. Now they come with mil turrets to match the mil-dot reticle. If you are target shooting you will most likely keep any scope on max magnification. Now if you are hunting, definitely get a variable scope. Just another option.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Dont rule out hawke they make a nice scope for the money 6.5-24 or 8-32 full tactical push pull turets and they do have very nice glass. I us one for 600a f class and shoot first in ftr always returns to zero

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

There's a good thread on the Midway USA Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 with mil/mil turrets.

Don't want to start a thread that's going to get moved, but if you're interested in one, send me a p.m. I don't have enough posts to list it in the for sale section.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Just got my Vortex PST and am very happy.

This is what I put on my new 5R; I'm not a hunter but if a coyote happens to wander towards the gong...

I went with the HD glass and the mildot reticle/mil turrets. Super easy to zero and dope. My longest shot so far is 615 yards. I hope to go to 1 k ...

I looked through a 6500 Bushnell this week and was very impressed with it. It was a 2.5x16x42 but not the tactical series. I talked to Bushnell and they say the glass is the same between the 6500 and Elite tacticals so I am thinking about getting one of their tacticals so I can get the exposed knobs etc.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1 MRAD SFP... $699.00 everywhere, all day long. Only every once in a while will find one in the for sale section, but only slightly cheaper.

Re: Good value tactical rifle scopes.

Don't overlook the MidwayUSA Vortex Viper HS 5-15 scope. It is probably the very best optics deal out there at $499.00. It was a total steal of a deal when they were on sale for $399.00.
