Picked it up today DIRT cheap. Threw some extra stuff I had laying around the house to basically get a base line before I actually start the build. It came with the Burris Signature self centering 1" rings and 24 rounds of ammo. Only 10 rounds fired out of it (After zeroing the guy decided the recoil was just way too much for him to handle lol).

Ignore the cheapo Monarch. Threw it on just to play with those Burris rings. I'll be using my Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP EBR-1 MRAD in 30mm Badger Ordnance USMC rings for shooting.

Since most of my "Armory Fund" is tied up in my 1000 yard Rem 700 .308 this rifle will be a heavy hitting gun built for the lowest price. Basically my first true foray into seeing just how much I can squeeze out of it for the LEAST amount of money.

The rifle is a non-accutrigger model with a 26" factory heavy barrel and blind magazine. The first thing to go will be the stock. Looking at the Choate Tactical (The McMillan clone) due to the extra weight and excellent price tag. If I can find a B&C Medalist M40 I'll go with that. Any ideas on cheap bottom metal for it? I'd like to go with AT LEAST a hinged floor plate. Price is the big factor here.

Next up will be a replacement trigger. This one has creep and a rather heavy pull. I'll have to spend some time with the search box to figure out if it can be tuned.

Last touch will be a Surefire Muzzle Brake and 20 MOA one piece picatinny base.

After that I'll just shoot it until I turn the barrel into a smooth bore.

Any input, like always, will be greatly appreciated.

Google search" adjusting savage triggers" you can help a factory trigger alot. If you decide to replace I like my Rifle Basics. HTH

+1 for the Rifle Basix trigger for the Savage. Put one on my old model 10 fat barrel and it was very nice. About $75 and nearly as good as triggers costing 3-4x as much. Have fun.

EGW makes badass 20moa bases and they're pretty cheap. I put an EGW 20moa pic base and 30mm EGW rings on my R700 308 build and it holds my Viper PST 4-16 FFP just fine.
