To make a long story short ....

I do a lot of gun show trading and swapping around for various items, and recently came across a couple of 'Good' grade .22LR Training rifles that I moving for other things that I need. My buddy is a big CZ collector and has almost every model available, and is wanting me to make him a deal on any of his pistols.

Now, I know very little about CZ pistols, but I do know that their 22 LR rifles are top notch.

Does CZ make a good quality product in their pistol line? What would they be comparable to in the US market?

Thanks, and sorry for being so long winded.

Yes....the CZ75 platform (CZ75, 75B, 85, SP01, P01, etc) are all very solid performers and are often underrated due to its relatively small amount of time here in the US market (late 80's-early 90's if I am correct). You won't be dissapointed in with a CZ.

Yes CZ makes a fine 22 rifle in the 452 and 455. I just got a 455. I consider the CZ75/85 line of pistols along with Browning Highpowers to be the best 9mm's ever made. That's my opinion. Remember the CZ's come in SA/DA and SA only if you have a preference.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

not exactly a CZ, but close, is my EAA Witness Elite Match.....things trigger is AMAZING, has the smoothest slide i've ever felt (we're talking $1500++ 1911 smooth) and is wayyyyyyyyyyy more accurate than I am.

my best friend has a SAO 9mm cz....it's a damn fine gun as well, not quite as nice as the EAA...but still much better than any of our glocks or xd's could ever hope to be.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I picked up a CZ SP-01 Shadow a couple of months ago for USPSA use. Previous to that I shot M&Ps and Glocks in USPSA. With just a couple of months behind the CZ I can say that it's without question my favorite handgun I've ever owned. The accuracy is excellent, it feels great in the hand, it is reliable, the trigger is amazing with just a little bit of polishing at home, spare parts are readily available, and it's an easy design to take apart and tinker with.

I really think CZ makes the most underrated handguns on the market.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I think they are really good guns, Ive fired a few, I never concidered one though, I have small hands and they tend not to fit me very well.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I have a P-01 that I really like. It is a great gun for DA/SA and is NATO spec. I like that it is metal and not polymer as well (call me old fashoined. It is 100% reliable. I'd compare it to a SIG but at a better price point.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I have a sp-01 phantom 9mm (its plastic) and I love it. first time out was shooting primers out of 12ga hulls at 25 ft. it feels great and no recoil. Bring the gun up and theres the front site, clear as day.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

They are great pistols. The trigger is the only downside. On the SP-01 Tactical and Phantom I've shot, the triggers are long and stagey. Not horrible, but not great. I'm not gonna sell mine though.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

triggers are long, reminds me of a beretta 92,if your used to a 1911 or glock type trigger pull you may not like the cz trigger

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

Great guns. You can get the triggers very sweet with minimal work. The CZ custom shop has parts and does excellent work. THey are easy to work on, durable, and bloody accurate. I have several, hard to beat.

The pivot style trigger has a long pull but very short reset. After a little time with them, you adapt and then love it...

I recommend the models without the firing bin block if allowed in your state.
SP01 Shadow, CZ75 Shadow, CZ85 Combat. THey have a shorter trigger reset and a 1911 style firing pin stop.

Oh and most of them are all metal! I like metal. Uh oh, now I've done it :)

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I picked up a p07 last November as a truck gun and couldn't be happier. honestly unless someone's willing to pony up and dish out the cash for a hi power or kimber a cz is the way to go. if he's got one try and get the phantom you will be happy

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I have a Shadow and a Tactical Sport that I run in 3 gun, IDPA and USPSA. Both are super accurate but short chambered (I reload and shoot competitively so I try to load long). Running round nose bullets seems to be the best thing for their diet.

They're somewhat complicated to work on, but just changing the hammer spring can yield a substantial trigger pull reduction.

They are some of the best deals out their for competitive shooting. Go to CZ custom for any aftermarket parts.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I own a CZ P-07 Duty and can honestly say it has the best factory trigger I have felt. Ergos are great. Accuracy very good. Plus the price tag was only $371 out-the-door for mine (got it on sale). You can't beat that. Be warned though, aftermarket support is weak for CZ...and expensive.

Re: Any CZ Owners Here? Need Opinions.

I've been extremely happy with my SP-01 in 9mm. It's accurate, comfortable, and reliable, (7-10 ftf/fte's with S and B cheap stuff in the first 800 rds, stopped counting after that.) This gun fits in my hands better than any other I've owned or shot. I did have a strange problem, the front sight lamp, (Metprolight,) broke after 100 rds. CZ replaced it within a week. In general, I can't say enough good things about it. This replaced a Glock 34 I couldn't warm up too, it's been a night and day difference.

I would recommend looking at a Kadet kit to go along with it. It's expensive, (you can find a Mark 3 for less,) but having a platform that uses the same trigger and ergos has been a dream. I have somewhere around 2k rds through the Kadet kit, works wonders to smooth out the stock trigger!
