How many versions is there for the Sako TRG Bipod??

There is only 2 that I know of, but wanted to check.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I like mine too. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't lock it from canting.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

The only guarantee we have of a level rifle, with any bipod or even sandbagged in, is by glancing at the bubble before the shot. During slow, deliberate fire strings, it is part of my fundamentals before the shot. After bipod load and before my edge-to-edge check.

In my opinion, if you lock out your cant control, you accept any cant that will come with an unlevel surface or machining difference in bipod legs of any make.

I hope you get your desired result!

Marc

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I like the bipod. When unloaded you have plenty of side to side cant to get the rifle level and when loaded it locks up well. The legs are easy to fold, but not nearly as quick as a Harris. If you are shooting matches with tight time limits the Harris is probably better.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I always look at my level before I fire a round. I only snug down my cant a little so just in case I need to slightly level it out a little so I don't have to reach up and loosen anything. I never completely try to lock it. I know what you are saying though.

I was just wandering about the versions. I am selling mine. I think someone is trying to B.S. (Not on the Hide, on another website) me and tried to talk me down $125 trying to say I have the old model. I know mine is the 2nd version (newer, according to the model#) and never heard of or seen a 3rd version. I just wanted to check to make sure I have my info right.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

With the "o-ring mod", the floppy canting goes away and you get a controlled resistance from the squishiness of the o-ring compressing when you cant it on purpose. Much preferred to the rattling of the bipod without the o-ring mod.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

Whats the "o-ring mod"? Do you have any pics so I can see what you are talking about?

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

What are the two versions? I have Sako Bipod m08 s5740495 on my TRG 42. Is mine Ver 1 or 2?

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

Theres an early and later model. The older ones are wider and sit alittle lower. The attachment and feet are all the same.

The wider stance version that I have will lock from canting when loading forward. I love this bipod. Best feeling rifle that I have ever fired.

You have the newer. The older one is S5740395.

o ring mod is used between legs and fixed frame to tighten up .
Also far better away to do it using hard feeler gauge blade they don't won't wear out like rubber o ring. It's easy just pick gauge size (it will be thin) that fits tight where pivots then cut that blade off at hole where gauges are held together on pack , take pivot bolt out insert cut blade over bolt while reinstalling. With mod if done right will cant with a little pressure but will no longer flop.

The canting goes away as I load the bipod. When I get back off the gun it does flop to one side or the other but not enough that it has ever tipped over. I like the floppiness as I'm building my position. I can get the gun exactly where I want it in my shoulder and cheek and then with a little forward pressure... I lock in. I see it as a feature not a bug.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I have both the older model and the new model. I prefer the older one with the wider stance. I don't see how having the older one would devalue the price. Pretty much the same bipods.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

Love my Sako Bipod. Period. A little pricey, but you only buy it once.
Wide version. Extremely stable.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I had an original Sako bipod but did not thrill me. switched to Long Range Accuracy Bipod and could not be happier, except hard as hell to get ahold of the guy who makes them

The website is never updated. I remember reading a thread now and then on the Long Range Accuracy bipods and the various models supposed to come out for anything from F-class to more convenient, compact models. So it's not just vaporware?

I also have a bipod from LRA and am happy with it. Claw feet would be nice as it's not as easy to load. I second your comment that the guy is hard to get a hold of. A 6 week projection time turned into 8 months, and then he still didn't give me half of the order, but in the end it all worked out.

As far as the Sako bipod, I tried it once or twice on my buddies TRG and hated it. I was so glad I had the opportunity to try it before shelling out 450 for it. However, he is very satisfied with the Sako bipod and dislikes my LRA bipod.

Really just comes down to personal choice.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I have both, LRA and a Sako Bipod. I bought the LRA for my 338 Lapua (not a Sako) instead of a Harris b/c I wanted something a little more heavy duty.

Re: Sako TRG Bipod??

I have the Harris, atlas, and Parker Hale. I can say that the first generation sako with wide stance is my absolute favorite hands down
