Hey fellas, I am in need of your help... I just put together a 10/22. Basically a custom stock (which my company fitted), a Kidd 2 stage trigger, Whistle Pigg Barrel, Kidd Bolt, and Kidd Receiver. This thing is seriously stupid nice for a 10/22... probably have close to a Gnote (thats a grand) in the thing. I need to throw a scope on it and refuse to skimp out now! In saying that I am not putting a $1500.00 scope on her.... I love Leupold's, Nikon's are always nice... I saw Trijicon (scope, not Acog) has some pretty cool stuff out... Can you guys give me a recommendation on scopes? I think I would like to stay with one of the three listed above but, I am all ears if you have other recommendations... make and models would be awesome!

To add to that, I would love to shoot this thing between 50-150 yard... and when I get froggy, shoot at 200. ( I know .22LR is not really meant for this... or at least thats what I am told). So I need the scope to be able to handle this kind of shooting. My receiver does have some MOA built into it as these yardages should be possible with my receiver and a very nice scope.

Now that thats out of the way... onto Ammo. Knowing what you know now from what I explained... is there any ammo that you think is better for longer distances? I would love to hear thoughts on this topic as well.

Thanks so much for the info and help here guys!

welcome to the hide. You can use about any scope for your desired ranges, however since you have semi precision shooting as your goal I would also look at a vortex crossfire or step up to the diamondback. Now onto your ammo question, buy one box of 10 different brands and qualities of ammo (but don't go real cheap) and see what your rifle likes. don't count the first 10 or 15 shots during change over as is takes a few to season your barrel.
Spend a lot of time on this tread and also over a rimfirecentral and you will learn more than you ever wanted to know about getting it out of your 10/22

16x Leupy Mark-4, -140MOA of vertical adjustment allows for pinging gongs way out there. They pop up now and then in the for sale section priced 'reasonably'.

Oh, ammo. For "serious" shooting, Eley Black Box. For semi serious, Wolf Match Target. For plinking, CCI SV in the paper boxes. Just over $5 for 100.

A friend of mine just got in some Aguila Match, and he says that it shoots a bit better than the CCI SV out of his Anschutz. I'll have to see.

If your doing serious benchrest shooting at distances up to 200 yards you would not do any better for accuracy than a Weaver T-36 like most competitors use.
If your shooting offhand sometime then you need a variable power scope in the 6-24 power range for compromise. Sightron makes one that would be perfect in that range and for a fairly reasonable price. Leupy also makes a variable in that range too I think like a 6-24X. But if your shooting paper targets much past 100 yards the higher power scopes are nice and if you shoot those Shoot-N-See targets you will be able to see the impacts at 150 yards and depending on mirage 200 yards.

We use Lapua Rifle Match ammo (about $7./box) for a good compromise between accuracy and affordability and in most of our competition rifles it will hold the 10 ring in calm conditions. With your semi-auto you may want to try Federal Auto-match as the tip is designed not to deform when chambering which is a problem dimpling the bullet while it is being forced up and into the chamber by the offset mechanism.

This is all great stuff guys... I am doing my reading on the recommendations you all have provided so far...

looking forward to seeing if there is anything else... this should be good if not though!

This is my 10/22. I had originally built it for shooting benchrest and put a lot of time and work into it, before I finally came to my senses and got into a 40X for the serious stuff.

It's still a good shooter and run with any out of the box Savage or Marlin bolt gun. It's all Kidd, except for the receiver.

The PST that I have on it is nice and has done everything that I've asked of it, but my bench rifle that I use for ARA and F Class matches wears a Weaver T36. What you need depends a lot on how small you want to shoot. The Weaver is a damned fine target scope, but limits the flexibility of the rifle.

Re: Scope and Ammo... New .22LR , NEED Help please

Sad thing is for the Remington 597 I built I tried about 15 different kinds of ammunition all in 40gn. From stuff I had laying around to high end rounds. Even at 200 yards shooting tight groups was done with CCI MINI mags. just the barrel I guess but the proof was in the testing after I worked over the rifle inside and out. Ammo is a tough call since each custom. 22 barrel I've shot through has liked different types of ammo. Good luck!
