I got my gun back from GAP about 4 weeks ago with a new 26” 7.7 twist Bartlein barrel chambered in 6mm Creedmoor. The barrel took a bit to break in, but load development was too easy. I just ran 6.5 CM brass through dies that Hornady made for GAP, put CCI BR primers in the back side, added 42 grains of H4350 and 105 Bergers Hybrids and started shooting. I worked loads up to 43.5 grains of H4350 ascending by .5 and goofed around with seating depth. I also tried the Hornady 105 BTHP bullet and conducted the same tests. I eventually settled in on 42.4 grains of H4350 with the Hornady bullet loaded off the lands .030”. The results are 3135 FPS and tight groups. The Berger bullet offers 0.017 better G1 BC, but I don’t shoot well enough to notice. The Hornady bullet is much less fickle when it comes to load length and is 1/2 the money so I bought a bunch of them.
The load is 6.5 CM brass necked to 6mm, CCI BR Primers, 42.4 gr of H 4350, Hornady 6mm BTHP loaded to AOL of 2.775”, which would be awesome in a gas gun.
The 6mm cartridge has so much to offer and there isn’t a short supply of cases out there to choose from, I went with the 6mm Creedmoor for a few reasons. The first and for most was I have a bunch of 6.5 Creedmoor brass. Secondly I wanted a cartridge that would perform well in a gas as well as a bolt gun in order to cut down on my accessories. If you are looking to step into the 6mm world do not overlook the 6mm Creedmoor as a viable cartridge.
GAP has lots of proper head stamped 6mm Creedmoor brass in stock and will do an outstanding job re-barreling your baby. If Hornady is paying attention it probably will not be too long before they will offer factory match ammo in the 6mm Creedmoor as well.
The target is a Big Dog Steel snipers hide head and chest plate target at 535 yards. DA was 1500’ and winds were variable 0-3 full value from the left. I dialed 2.1 mils on the scope, held left ear (as looking at the target) for ten shots.

did you try the dtacs at all? i only ask because i have a few thousand of them. my 6mm creedmoor barrel should be done first week in june.

Re: 6mm Creedmoor performance rundown

I've got to agree here. I've seen him shoot, and the cartridge is a great performer. Once the dope was verified, the 6 CM was very accurate, and good in the wind. Did not seem to be very picky when it came to developing the load.

Sometimes it seems you use up a quarter of your barrel's life just perfecting the right load. The 6 CM seemed to come together quickly. Of course, given the amount Scott shoots, he has his next barrel on order already . . .

Re: 6mm Creedmoor performance rundown

Hopefully this round takes off and does well for all the people who shoot this out of gas and bolt gun! It would be nice to shoot the same round through bolt and gas gun to save on component and setup

Re: 6mm Creedmoor performance rundown

I tried about 50 of the DTACs but looking at the numbers it didn't make sense to spend a bunch of time working up a load. The wind drift is pretty much the same at 3050 as the 105s going 3130 and the drops are better withthe 105s. If you have a bunchof DTACs just shoot them until you need a new barrel.

Scott I thought this was our little secret

. Saw this rifle/round combo perform under match conditions and it was stellar. You get the Ballistics of the magnums with less cost and zero recoil. Its easy as the BR/ PPC class to load for and runs great in a Gas Gun.

I have 115 loaded ammo from McCourt.... as far as competing with the 105's there is no comparison in my trials. I would pick the 105 every time. If you are running a bolt gun I would work out a price for a box of 50 for you. I believe this will be to hot for a gas gun.

The 6mm Creedmoor is the sh#t. Mine is on a Mega Arms monolithic single rail upper/billet lower. I've shot it for the last two days with the 105 Hornady. Its a laser. No recoil, where you can spot your hits. I'm running 41.5 H4350 with CCI BR primer @3000 fps (22.5' Bartlein 1/8).

Re: 6mm Creedmoor performance rundown

George just finished my "Clinic/Python Killer" in 6cm. This is a great round and with the combination of bolt and gasser it will give someone plenty of options. As soon as I have some data, I'll add to what Scott has already shown. I'll be testing some pointed BN coated 105 hybrids in the next week or two.

If you guys are wanting some brass from GA Precision you better jump on it. It's going quick. I bought 1k while I was there and planning on getting another 1k. The brass looks very well manufactured. Some of the best I've seen.
