As most of you know, TNVC not only sells kit; we also design and manufacture kit for LE and Military customers. Drawing from our years of experience in these communities, we are always looking for innovative ways to solve problems. When a void exists, we fill it with an innovative, high quality solution. Keeping with this tradition, we are proud to offer the TNVC Base Jump Lanyard.

BJ_Lanyard_1.jpg

We started with the premise that the OPS Core Base Jump Helmet is one of the best available platforms for form, fit and function. However, due to the molded-in shroud, an operator cannot use a retention lanyard device to catch their ultra-expensive NVG’s, in the event the mount disengages from the helmet.

Unfortunately we have seen some DIY projects that advocate drilling holes and installing bolts through the helmet itself. Not only are these practices not approved by the manufacturer, voiding any warranty, they produce a danger to the wearer. In a ballistic helmet, these holes violate the structural integrity of the helmet and aid in the degradation of the ballistic fibers inside. In non-ballistic helmets, structural integrity can also be compromised and, placing a metal bolt where it might contact the head in a hard blow, well…you get the picture. Here at TNVC, we never endorse projects that can endanger the user, nor do the manufacturers.

Due to the Ops Core Base Jump Helmet’s extreme popularity among professional and commercial users, we recognized a need for a simple, efficient, and cost-effective lanyard. The design also had to be intuitive and require no modification to the helmet. The TNVC Base Jump Lanyard utilizes an off-the shelf Wilcox Retractable Lanyard (a popular, battle-proven, milspec device) threaded over a milspec webbing/ hook & loop strap. The strap ends are fed through the existing forward vent holes of the Base Jump Helmet and secured by the hook patches on the inside of the helmet. The double-sided micro hook/loop straps allow the Ops Core pads to be placed right over them without losing any adhesion. The retractable lanyard is secured tightly against the helmet shell and provides a very secure, low-profile NVG retention platform.

Our materials meet current Mil-Spec standards, right down to the thread used in the stitching. Best of all, the TNVC Lanyard is made in our facility, in America, by Americans.

We are proud to offer this newest product from TNVC. Now, operators have an option to drilling out expensive helmets, while still being able to protect their valuable NVG’s from hitting the deck.

Re: NEW TNVC Base Jump Helmet Lanyard

Question, I have the lanyard and really like it. Where and how do you reccamend to attach it to the pvs 14 ,a Nite Enforcer from TNVC? I cant really tell in the pics? Also, do most folks use the straps on the base jump helmet or do you reccamend using them with the wilcox mount? I have that mount (again, thanks TNVC) too and couldnt really see a way to attach them and wondered what there for and if they are needed for the base jump / wilcox combo...Thanks Guys for the instruction.

Re: NEW TNVC Base Jump Helmet Lanyard

Thanks for the kind words! The straps for the lanyard have to be secured through the holes in a Base Jump or Carbon Ops Core Helmet. They get sandwiched between the shell and the velcro pads. We offer Wilcox Lanyards that attach to various NVG shrouds as well, but nothing attached directly to the mount. The reason for this is because the mount can be knocked off in the field, taking your goggles on a one-way ride to the deck. So, the lanyard is attached to the shroud (which is bolted to the helmet) or to the helmet itself.

The clip on the shroud can attach to the PVS-14 in a number of ways. You will want to attach it to one of the two lanyard holes on the PVS-14 housing. The clip will fit in the hole, but it will be tight and is a pain in the ass to do when it is on your head and you can't see it. So, you have to jerry-rig something. I use a tiny split ring (key chain ring) that I found in the junk drawer in my kitchen. Works awesome. You can pick these up at a craft store I would imagine. If that is not available, I would suggest a small plastic zip tie. I did this in the military and it worked like a charm. Lastly, you could run a piece of gutted 550 cord through the hole and tie it off to make a small loop.

Hope this helps.

Re: NEW TNVC Base Jump Helmet Lanyard

As an aside, any word on Base Jump helmets inbound? I know OC is always behind. I ordered back in early June from you guys. Just thought I would check.
