I have decided to start a 300 AAC blackout SBR project. I narrowed it down to 2 options. I was either gonna go with a Noveske 8" upper, or with a PWS 9.75" piston driven complete rifle. If I went with the Noveske upper, I can start the SBR paperwork now on a dedicated lower while I wait for the item to ship. I am not sure how long it will take for a PWS complete rifle to ship. I cannot decide between piston vs direct impingement. One of my friends is telling me to go with the PWS because of the piston system being much cleaner with 300blk, but I don't know true this is. Can anyone with 300blk experience guide me?

    Re: 300blk SBR

Do you plan on shooting suppressed? If you do, it's not going to matter, piston or DI. They are going to dirty no matter what. We have gone through our fair share of 300 Blackout ammo and never once have had a stoppage due to a dirty gun. The cartridge just doesn't have that much powder to burn to get the inside action that dirty.

    Re: 300blk SBR

The 300 BLK is a lot cleaner by nature.
It is more like a pistol cartridge than a rifle cartridge.
(For the ultimate in clean supersonic loads, use N110 powder.)
I would not pay the extra in order to do a GP system.

If you ever plan on suppressing your 300 BLK, I absolutely would not run a GP setup.
This is for two very big reasons.
    1. The 300 BLK is crazy super quite subsonic suppressed.
A GP setup will be significantly louder than a DI setup.
    2. Getting a 300 BLK to cycle properly can be an issue.
With GP system, the added weight of the piston components make this issue even more difficult.

    Welcome to the club.
You will love the 300 BLK.
It is a very fun cartridge that is capable of some incredible feats...

    What he said.

I have an 8" Noveske and either there isn't enough pressure to begin with for the can to boost or there isn't enough powder to make that much of a mess. Its nothing like a suppressed 5.56.

If you go unsupressed the subs probably wont cycle it.

    Re: 300blk SBR

If you really wamt to go the SBR route , look into AAC's 12.5" 300BLK complete upper system. I have been running one of these since they first came out with -0- malfunctions or back pressure issues. Also when it is running the AAC 7.62SD can on it ,it is almost as quite as the AAC Micro 7 rifle. If you want to try something that is voodoo quite try out the Micro 7 unit. Have fun! Only problem is the 5.56's and 7.62x51's get left behind alot on range day.

    Re: 300blk SBR

Yes, I plan on shooting suppressed. I was misled into believing that a piston system would be significantly cleaner.

    Re: 300blk SBR

After reading some of your responses, I am leaning towards the Noveske upper.

    Re: 300blk SBR

Go DI, I just wipe mine down swab the barrel and oil. Its clean and shoots great. I have an 8" Satern barrel from Houston Armory who posted above. Its shoots awesome, 208 amax is the shit with mine. Was nocking shotgun hulls off of fence post at 100 yrds every shot saturday. I couldn't ask for a better barrel. I also have a 16" Noveske, no complants there eather.

    Re: 300blk SBR

I am running the Noveske 10" with an SAS can, zero issues so far. Could not be more pleased. As others have said the 300 BLK runs much cleaner than a 5.56 with a can.

I do not have experience with a GP system, so I can't add to that portion of you questions.

Best of Luck, enjoy the 300!

    Re: 300blk SBR

Ok, well now the wait for the form 4 and for the uppers to come back in stock

    Re: 300blk SBR

My own experience with my 8" Noveske and 762-SDN-6 can:

Supersonic: Flawless operation suppressed or unsuppressed.
Subsonic: Flawless suppressed, occasional short-stroking when unsuppressed (Remington Factory 220gr.)

As others have stated, the gun (especially using subs) doesn't run dirty. I highly doubt I will ever need to have the can serviced, and blow-back is simply not an issue.

    FWIW,

The AAC and Noveske barrels / uppers seem to be the ones that have the least ammount of issues with being properly gassed.
