i just got a new B&C stock for my M700 ADL with a sporter barrel. I read or heard somewhere that on sporter barrel you do not free float them. They need to rest on the pads at the front of the barrel channel. im having to sand the new stock down to make the action and barrell fit just dont want to sand down to much.

Re: free float on an ADL

The pressure pad in my factory stock wasn't a problem when shooting off a bulls bag, supporting the gun under the lug area. When I switched to a bipod it became a big problem. I floated the barrel and reenforced the fore-end to keep it from flexing up and it went back to shooting great.

Every gun is different. If it is a hunting rifle and you only take one shot and it shoots to the same place every time from a cold bore, don't mess with it!
