If that doesn't work this method seems to be pretty much fool proof.

+1

I didn't even clean mine first, just took it shootin'.

It shows a preference for CCI SV, though CCI 36 & 40gr MiniMags and Winchester Dynapoint GT (black box from Dick's Sporting Goods) are also very good.

Re: FV-SR barrel break-in

Yup...I've got the Savages in .22 and .17...just shoot them. Maybe a bore snake after many rounds...then continue. I really haven't see a change in accuracy over time compared to other rimfires I've babied. Just go out and try the burn the barrel out of it!

Re: FV-SR barrel break-in

I have never followed a break in procedure on a rimfire. I would give it a quick clean when it is new, then shoot it. Clean it gets dirty and needs it.

Re: FV-SR barrel break-in

I followed a centerfire break in procedure on my 22lr.
Not sure if it was needed or helped, but it got it anyway.
Clean after every round for 20 rounds, then after every five for the rest of a 100 round box. Once the box was empty, I ran ammo through it as fast as I could and got the barrel nice and warm/hot. I was trying to relieve some of the stress in the barrel and it seemed to work. It still shoots 1/2 moa.

Do what you think is best. It is your rifle and the most important thing is that you are happy.

Re: FV-SR barrel break-in

the only parts of my .22 that gets cleaned are my bolt, bolt face, and chamber. i leave the barrel alone.
