I was looking through the 2012 new releases for rangefinders and came across this vortex. Anybody have one yet or any experience with it? I guess it was on display at the 2012 SHOT show, so maybe some of you guys tht went may have a little time using it....

I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate that model but I used a buddy's redfield and it was nice and very reasonable...$170

Bringing this back up because I got to handle one of these today. I no zilch when it comes to rangefinders, but since it has been about 6 weeks since this was posted, I am curious if anyone has come into contact with the Vortex 1000?

The unit was much smaller than I had anticipated, but it seemed to be well built (typical of Vortex goods) for the price ($380). It has a small clip on the side to allow easy attachment.

So, anyone with experience with other rangefinders who has handled/used the Vortex care to report on whether it is a decent product? Thank you.

Well my local shop final got some of these in last week and I couldn't resist trying one for the price.

Today I took it out and got some real time with it. My first impression of the RF was great. Seams to be built rugged enough for regular use in the field, hunting or at the range anyway. Glass is clear with a very crisp image. All the built in features for the cost is awesome.

Sadly however it didn't range worth a darn past 300 yards. Wood, steel, people out to 300 this guy picked up the range perfect first try. Anything past that it seemed almost incapable of. I tried to range a 10'x10' wooden shed at 500 and this was with a tripod. It took almost two dozen tries to get a reading.

Next was a steel shipping container at around 560. Same result.
Just for reference, all this was done mid afternoon, 90 degree temp, full sun, 10-15 mph wind on a tripod.

If your shooting archery or 22's, then I'd say go for it. Unfortunately I can't even see myself using this RF for a average hunt or even a rifle comp. It will be going back to the store this week.

i have one, i have not got it to read 1000 yet. the most ive personally seen was a 978 yard reading. this was on the side of a semi trailer, off handed.

if ranged the side of a hil at 675. sadly i live in indiana and dont have the opportunity to really test its limitations.

i have a leupold rx3 1200 yd rangefinder that wont hold a candle to my vortex

    Re: Vortex Ranger 1000 Rangefinder

I went in for a follow up with my buddy's at Sportsman's Warehouse... my buddy at the gun counter (who is a self professed, "Vortex whore") said the RF was great up to about 500 yards, another gentleman chimed in and said "it's more like 600..." Either way, they had just sold their last one, so I still have not got to try one for myself. When I come across it, I'll buy it and see for myself...

Anyone else try the Ranger? They did not have any at my local Sportsmans.
