Gents,

I've read about who thinks what the best vertical fore grip on a standard M4. Some people don't seem to like the magpul AFG gear because of the so called chicken wing effect......I don't any ideas about that since i have not shot more than 2 mags with one on.

Personally I think if into with a folding vertical grip that has watertight storage for batteries this may be a more useful option.

Any gear suggestions or feedback would be great......and yes, I know magpul builds badass gear.

Thanks!

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

AFG2 on my AR...I see no chicken winging there...? Had a Magpul Vert Grip. Dremel'd the shit out of it to make a handstop. I like it MUCH better than any vert grip.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

AFG 2 for me. If you sent the rig up correctly, you won't chicken wing.

I like the Troy, I use the short set. I went from the CQD grip to the AFG and then to the Troy stubby. I felt the stubby vertical grip could do everything that I wanted grip to do for the way that I shoot. I think the AFG has its limitations in various shooting positions where I can grab and push more on the Troy.
The Troy comes in three pieces and you can store your batteries in there as well.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Gear Sector if you want a VFG. I like the AFG better than any VFG.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Magpul RVG is a win in my book. I have one on each of my ARs (my girlfriend's build has an MVG since it's got MOE Midlength handguards.)

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Command Arms at Midway...$13.99...made in Israel.

I was skeptical, but I really like it for the price.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

The GripPod isn't too bad either.. its a little long but its got a spring loaded bipod that shoots out the bottom.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

How about the larue tactical vfg's? Looks like they come in three sizes.....I'm really keen on waterproof batt storage.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

If $$$ is not a problem... It's pricey!

Can be made 3 different lengths and comes with "rubber bands" to attach pressure pad for light/IR laser/visible laser/death ray. It's Q.D. and has the "if you happy warranty." I really started to like it when I used it on two rifles for different purposes. Great storage capacity...

RVG for me. Got them on both of my AR's.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Great feedback. Think I'm gonna try the larue......

See my above post. As long as it has a Picatinny rail, go with the LaRue. Has Q.D. lever so its easy to switch around. When my friends and I got together and did our own "3-gun", I was able to use the "stubby" on the AR and then add the extention when I needed a slightly longer grip for my shotgun. Only downside= $$$ Positives= Many, plus have you tried to slide a VFG along a slightly oversize rail? It is a PITA till the groove opens up... My 2 more cents...

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Maybe I'll give that one a try... yeah I've had to tap a picatinny item down along a rail before with a hammer.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Lightest cheapest one you can find. You may hate it, and you won't be out much that way. I used to run one all the time, but not much anymore. If you find you like them, and you use your rifle really hard don't stick with plastic, I broke one, but normal range usage it'll never happen, course if it hand't given I wonder how the rails would've fared.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I used a good ol' KAC grip for a while, it was cheap and light. Switched to a Daniel Defense and I'm digging it, it's lightweight and not as wide/bulky as the Tangodown.

Ahhhh so that is why I was having a problem putting on my AFG2, thanks for the explanation.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Tango Down Battle Grip is my pick.
Just pick the model that fits your needs the best.

FWIW,
I use mine like the AFG.
There are several reasons why I don't run an AFG though.
- Need pressure pad for weapon light
- The Battle grip is more versatile when used as an improvised support
- A standard style VFG allows you to get the gun ridiculously hot and still allow you to handle it without burning your hands

Cheers,

Phil

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I love how you ask such a personal question like this and you get 30 different opinions. I personally like the old reliable KAC VFG but have been using Larue handstops recently.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

If you are going VFG then i have to second the KAC for pure simplicity. I however do like the magpul AFG alot...

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Having a true full size grip and a bipod at the ready? Nothing beats the Grip Pod. The Military model costs $50 more, but the metal reinforcement is worth it.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I third a cheap one. They are great to have, but I'd save my big coin for other accessories.

I tried a bunch then went with that ^

Cheap and fits me well

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I use a grip pod because it was issued and I am a big fan of free. I mostly used it for its bipod as I prefer a more traditional horizontal grip most of the time.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I went ahead and bought a Daniel Defense forward grip....has good reviews and it has waterproof compartment for spare batteries. Supposedly it will hold 2 C123's and maybe an Aimpoint spare too.

if I dont like it I will just keep switching it out until I find one that works but I think this should do just fine for me.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Cool, no one recommended that one in your thread. Let us know what you think

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Yeah I went against the grain on this purchase but so far it works great and it's built like a tank. I don't see how I could break it. They engineered the locking system to the rail in a way that is our mechanical genius. I love it.

I've got 2 spare cr123s and an Aimpoint battery in the waterproof tube.

Just couldn't bring myself to but the magpul chicken wing accessory for some reason.....just didn't like how it felt. Maybe I will get that too so I can swap me out if I want.

Plus 1 for Daniel defense forward handle!

+1

I don't care for the grip pod, we used to call them chow hall bipods. If you really like the whole bipod-grip idea, I would recommend the mako fab model. It at least allows for variable leg length and cant.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Tango Downn stubby quik-release, Larue FUG, or mil-spec Grip-Pod---just my personal favs but have tried many

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I really like my Bobro. Pressure mount is awesome, solid as a rock.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

Ive used alot of different fore grips and it all comes down to preference

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I've had Tango Down and LaRue grips in the past, but my favorite now is the Magpul RVG. It's small, extremely light, and dirt cheap. I use one only on my SBR because the short rail doesn't give me room to stretch out and use an AFG2.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: MM1776</div><div class="ubbcode-body">troy modular grip </div></div>

I run the troy in the stubby fashion. But my thumb lays above the barrel for control and its the only way to activate my light because of how its mounted. If not for that I would try the magpul

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I run the troy modular grip as well. I prefer the stubby configuration. Well built and looks good.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

AFG works great on my SBR. For the 308 the stubby fore grip gives more control

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I prefer a CAA 5 position stubby. Very durable and the adjustments in cant come in handy. I like the option of having it flush with the handguard for vehicle or helo ops, and then I can retract it for a standard foregrip.

http://www.caatactical.com/viewProduct.asp?ID=75&catID=6

I am messing around with the AFG, especially as I am starting to consider having my support arm on the side rather than underneath.

Some of my buddies swear by the fixed foregrip with the bipod that pops out. I like the idea of having the option of a bipod, but not at the expense of not having the multiple grip angles that the CAA provides.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I used a vertical grip from Knights Armament and learned the value of the control that it gave to the weapon. But, I've since changed to the Magpul AFG2 because of the placement and angle that it provides. By aligning your support side hand, your thumb following the axis of the bore, it provides substantial control in recoil that a vertical grip does not provide. This placement also allows different grip styles and rapid changes as shooting styles/circumstances change.

Re: Best forward vertical grip for M4 carbine

I tried a bunch of them and for my hands I prefer the KAC or the LaRue FUG with the shortest adaptor on it.
