Which Berger Bullets?

I got a prize at the last match I shot in worth 3 boxes of Berger bullets. I am just getting into reloading so I have only been shooting factory ammo. I have zero experience with their bullets. I would like to get some for my .308 and 6.5 creedmoor.

I need them to be able to run in AI magazines. For the 308 I am considering the 155 hybrid and 185 hybrid. For the 6.5cm I am considering the 140 hybrid, 130 vld hunting, and 140 vld hunting. I would appreciate any suggestions. Both rifles are customs so the throats should not be excessively long.

Forgot to add. Thanks Berger for supporting our community. I really appreciate that you donate to these competitions.

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

Some shooters I know have been running into stability problems with the .30 cal 185 Hybrid in a 12 twist. Seems it needs a slightly faster twist. My 12 twist will run the 185 LRBT but not the Hybrid.

Just a heads up.

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

12 twist will not stabilize the 185 Hybrid. I have a 11.25 and it will stabilize them but it is right there. I shoot the 185gr LRBT's great bullet and forgiving on seating depths. For Palma I pay the money and shoot Berger's. Depending on your throat I would think you can run the LRBT's mag length the hybrids may not as they will be longer.

6.5mm There are a lot of good bullets out there and while the Berger's are good this is an area where I can't justify the extra cost. In my .260 I shoot the 123SMK and the 142gr SMK. However a shooting friend of mine shot the 130gr VLD's a couple years back in his .260 and they shot really well. Personally if you are dead set on Berger's go with the 140 hybrids. The afor mentioned friend helped test those bullets and he said they shot really well and weren't jump sensative like VLD's can be.

Personally spend your 3 boxes on the .308

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

I forgot to add twist. The 308 is a 10 twist and the 6.5cm is a 8.5. Thanks for the replies. I may try one box of the 140 hybrids and use the other two for the 308.

Are you running them from a magazine?

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

I run 130VLDs in my 26" 8 twist 260; 3000fps and very, very accurate.

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

I shot Bergers 140 VLD in my 6.5CM for the first time today. Reloading with them, I noticed slight variations in the lengths when measuring from the ogive to the base, along with the overall loaded length. Even with those slight variations, they still seem to group quite well.

Re: Which Berger Bullets?

JSF,..I'm not running them from a magazine. I have a tight 95 palma chamber and I'm seating them off the lands .005
