First M1A, bought this one used, noticed something weird on the clipslot - looks like that roll pin is protruding out more than it should, and seems like the clipslot is sitting a little too far to the right (as looking down the sights) of the dovetail. Any ideas?

Re: M1A Help!

Looks like the clip guide isn't centered which would account for the too pin not being set in. I would try to get a nylon punch/drift and see if the clip will move if out does you should be able to get it lined up set the roll pin.

Re: M1A Help!

with the pin sticking that far out i am sure your clip slot is off center and the roll pin in not in the alignment hole. get a rubber mallett and beat the clip slot off then use a punch and push the pin out of the clip slot , then put the clip slot back in and align it with the hole in the reciever and from the bottom of the reciever bolt out use the punch to drive the roll pin in from under the reciever and trough the hole .

Re: M1A Help!

Thanks guys, went backwards and took the clip slot off - when I tried to put it back in, there was some resistance when punching in the roll pin, any suggestions? Is there a good way to prop up the receiver?

Re: M1A Help!

I never, ever, re-use a roll pin. Anytime I have to remove one for any reason, I replace it when I put what ever back together.

Roll pins are soft, easily deformed AND CHEAP.

That may be your problem. After the clip guide is lined up, try a new roll pin.
