Catalyst: noun,
1: something that initiates a process or causes change with lesser amounts of energy or effort
2: an agent that provokes or speeds significant change or action

A very fitting name for what may be the best accessory I’ve ran across.

The Costa Catalyst from 21st Century Gunfighter is an extended magazine release for the M&P line of Smith and Wesson pistols. Some may say “I’ve never missed my mag release, why would I need to extend it?” the answer to that is very simple… you don’t need to but if you do, you’ll wonder why everyone on the planet hasn’t done so.
Before diving into the Specs and details of the Catalyst, we’ll cover the M&P quickly. The M&P is a polymer framed pistol with interchangeable back straps (S,M,L) most people like the feel of the back strap that is one size up from what they should be using to reach the controls. Those using the large usually should be using the Med, and those using the Med should be using the Small.
So, how do we get the best of both worlds; great feel and ability to reach the controls without breaking your grip? Enter the Catalyst
The specs on the Catalyst claim that it extends the release .2” but that number does it no justice! Yes it extends .2” from stock, but the ergonomics have been completely redesigned to feel like much more than that. With the angle increased from the frame towards the trigger it gives you a target you can’t miss. Just apply forward pressure and the mag drops, much less reach is required to press forward than to press across. there are 3 raised lines that are much more than for aesthetics; bare skin or gloved makes no difference, this release will grab and GO!

Pros: not breaking grip to drop mag and reload, non slip surface, more surface area, works in any holster, increased reload speed to get back in the fight, works like a dream, installs in seconds (literally)
Cons: NONE (unless you don’t have one)

If you want to give one a spin, look me up (warning: you’ll want at least one for every M&P you have)
I have nothing to do with selling these, mine was ordered from

Re: M&P extended Mag release

With the design, I don't see it getting snagged on clothing. Edges are rounded, it angles forward, and its pretty streamlined.
Not like some 2011/glock jobs I've seen that look like they are half grappling hook.
