I have a shotgun I'm trying to sell and a guy from CA wants to buy it. I see all the time about people not wanting to ship to California because of the laws. What are the laws and what would I have to do to ship this gun.
Thanks

Re: Shipping firearms to California

As long as the shotgun is California legal then it will be like any other cross state gun shipment. What kind of shotgun is it and what types of features does it have? If it has less than a 10 round magazine and does not have a detachable magazine, you should be good to deal with it like any transfer.

Shotguns

General requirements are 18" minimum barrel length, 26" minimum overall length.
Pump Shotguns

Most conceivable configurations are allowed, including:

Folding stocks (minimum length measured while folded applies).
Bayonet lugs.
Pistol grips.
Detachable magazines (Saiga's converted to single-shot,

Semi-automatic Shotguns

There are a few restrictions:

No detachable magazines (bullet button, etc, ok).
No folding or telescoping stock in combination with a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip

California bans certain features on Semi-automatic Shotguns

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall
also mean any of the following:
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action
of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a
detachable magazine.

(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Note that you may have a folding stock as long as you do not also have a pistol grip or thumbhole stock and vise-versa.

Only both of these features combined trigger "assault weapon" status.

Provision (8) applies to all shotguns.

There are no 'assault weapon' implications of magazine capacity together with shotguns.
