Hey guys I need some help. Been lurking on the site for a couple of years, and finally have a question I think is worth asking. Everything else has been covered I think, great site!
Can anybody tell me what kind of spacing there is between a bullet and the inside diameter of the baffles and port diameter in a suppressor? Is the clearance proportionate to the size of the projectile for different caliber rounds? Looking for any and all caliber size. Thank you in advance for any information!

Re: Suppressor Questions...Research.....

Bullet to baffle clearance varies wildly from one manufacturer to another.

There are a few considerations to take into account:

1 mounting system runout
2 baffle peening that may occur
3 bullet stability typical of the weapons and use considerations planned for.
4 host weapon barrel thread runout

Many manufacturers plan for #1. This is evident when bullet clearance is as low as .008" per side under perfect conditions.

A few manufacturers plan for all of the above and their bore clearance is more typically ~.030-.035" a side.

It is harder to obtain good performance with more clearance so the cans that will perform with good clearance are often more efficient designs that took more time and money to bring to market.
