Alright Guys, a New Week and a New Topic!!! I'm Building my First Folder Rifle right now. Folders and Short Barrel Rifles are becoming Ever More Popular These Days. Even Manners are making Folder Stocks now, AICS, XLR, KRG, and MaCree just to name off a few!

My current Project is a Tikka T3 Sout 20incher putting in a KRG Folder (On Order Already).

I was wondering how does everyone here have your Load Out Set up for a Folder Rifle? What kind of Cases or Packs are you using to Store and Carry These Rifles? I know we got some VERY CREATIVE PEOPLE on this Thread and some has Some VERY Expensive Equipments!

I'm trying to gather up some ideas on what kind of Pack/Case/Bag I should Get for my Folder Rifle Setup.

I did a Search before posting but didn't come up with anything other than a dead Case Setup thread. Hopefully you guys can be cool about it and share some Insights, Ideas, and Especially Pictures!!! Thanks So Much Everyone!

I used the old Elberstock gunslinger for my AW folder, mount mag pouches on the side. Used it for overwatches and sneaking up on meth monkeys, so I could carry my m4
That way I've got my beef jerky, bug spray etc.

Savage Custom with an 16.8" barrel and XLR folder and a X3 pack. Works great and yes it folds down into the bag completely.

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Hog,

Thanks for the comments. The pack is a Eberlestock LoDrag in ranger green that I got from Ceylon at Delta Outdoorsman. Send him a message and he will take care of you. My TRG started life as a fixed stock but I swapped it with the folding assembly from KRG Ops. I'm more than pleased with the setup. That rifle always exceeds my expectations. Send me a PM if you have any other questions or want some more specific pictures.

"16.8 INCHES!!!" That's like a Snub Nose Revolver in the Bolt Action Rifle World!!! How does it Shoot? do you lose a lot of Velocity going that short? I assume it's a .308 Correct? The shortest I have is 20inch Barrel but I've seen some 18 Inchers that looks VERY COOL!!! Thanks for sharing the picture bro, that setup looks very handy and comfortable for all day Hike or Long Walks in the Woods! GREAT SETUP!!!

Well Do Bro! You have my Dream Rifle! The Tikka is as close as I can get to a SAKO TRG with my budget. I know it'll never be, but at least it's got the same Barrel and some say pretty close Accuracy wise. I'm getting the KRG W3 Folder Chasis too for my setup! Man I saw the price for the TRG folder conversion on the KRG website and that thing cost a pretty penny too...But truth be told If I had a TRG I'd go with the KRG Folder too, the factory SAKO TRG Folder price difference is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Makes KRG looks like a MUCH Better deal! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Not a bolt action but Nomad mentioned the other day that he has a POF SBR with the Law Tactical folding stock adapter on his CTR VLTOR stock. I will look for a picture of it.

Edit: Here it is

That is the first time I have seen it. Pretty badass, could stuff it in most backpacks

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Hog,

I LOVE the Tikkas! I think it is a great way to go. I'm sure you will really enjoy the KRG stock. For better or worse I didn't pinch too many pennies on my TRG but your Tikka will keep up with it without a problem!

Thank you for the Kind Words Sir! I wish it'll turn out good too. So far I haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet, but from what I've heard and read, Tikkas are pretty nice straight out of the box. I'm glad you got a Good Deal for the TRG man, I've seen some pretty decent deals for it too here on the hide, and well...Everytime I see it...It's ALWAYS SOLD!!! SOB!!! LOL!!!

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Thanks, this one is my 223 1-8 twist using 77gr SMK's with 22.0 gr Varget and it shoots better than me...Very easy to carry but more of a short range thing, have not gone past 900 yards with it. There is no stock to hit the back of your head when its folded down like this. Great for some fun. (yes I know only 3rds at a 100y) Can't say enough good things about the Eberlestock LoDrag X3 bag for day trips.

I do have a 18" 308 that will be together real soon. Will post pics when it arrives.

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Instead of a folder you can SBR. Here is my 11 incher. Its less than 16" with the can.
photo2-8.jpg

It will push the 80 amax's at 2470.

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

That is also badass. That right there with one of the new Manners folders would make for a cool truck/pack gun.

Wouldn't mind combining yours with one of these

To pack in to some of my bowhunting stands in case more reach is needed than an arrow

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Reddirt,

I LOVE that rifle! i have drooled over that thing on the Manners site. My next build will be something like that but I won't be starting anythng else till 2013!

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Truck gun. See it on the dash. Before I switched stocks.
photo-2.jpg

reddirt78 that is an incredible set up. I thought about a folder but they are really heavy. Can you shoot with the stock folded?

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Yes! Definitely Post up the 18 Incher once it gets Done! Sounds like another Fun Rifle! And ain't no shame with 3 rds, I'd be happy if I can do that with my gun! P.S. 223 out to 900 Yrds out of a 16+ inch is VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!

Dude now that is just Crazy Short! Bet that's a handly little scout rifle!!!

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

Yes! Got to Love those Manner Stocks!!! Got one of those on my Remmy 700 custom .260 Remington and it's a sweet stock! was going to order a folder but just couldn't deal with another 3 Months worth of wait time...I know...I'm a impatient man...

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

I believe you can shoot it with the Stock Folded on the Manners Folder being it folds away from the Bolt Knob. Some of the Newer Folders from Remington Custom Chasis and AIAWs folds towards the Bolt knob which locks it in place to slim down the profile of the gun when folded. You Cannot manipulate the bolt with those kinds of stocks folded.

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

I'm having my factory Rem700 barrel cut down to 18" and threaded, hoping Ga will one day pass the "Hunt with suppressors" law.

It's in a Manners T5 w/ Mini chassis now but I sure wouldn't mind if it was in a T4 folder.

Handled T5s before, they're really nice! But if you want to go Folder and still keep the Thumb Hole design try a AICS 2.0. It's a Love it or Hate it relationship for some, but if you like the T5 style then you won't be far off with AICS. They're cheaper than the Manner Folders and Less wait time. Most importantly, you can probably upgrade to Viper Skin and have a Real Sweet Setup!

Stiller Tac 30 .308
Krieger SS 1:11 20" varmint profile
KRG Whiskey 3 Gen II folder
Jewell trigger
Atlas bipod and monopod
I just changed my scope to a NF NXS 5.5-22x50mm MOAR ret MOA/MOA

I love this gun but it is not light by any means. It's about 14.4lbs. unloaded. The new scope should drop a few onces.

There are a couple good reasons to have the folder so it folds over the bolt. The most important reason is so the other side of the rifle does one have anything sticking out on it. It makes it much more comfortable to carry if you are using a sling. If the stock folds to the opposite side of the bolt you will either have a bolt or stock jabbing into your side or back when the rifle is slung up.

Having the stock fold over the bolt also reduces the overall width of the rifle when folded as compared to a rifle that has a similar style stock that folds to the opposite side of the bolt.

Also, I cannot really think of a time when you would need to fire a bolt action rifle with the stock folded. Even if it was needed for defense in CQB, in my opinion you would be better served by utilizing a sidearm.

If you want a short bolt action rifle that can be fired readily, check out the DTA Covert.

Very true, and I don't really ever planning on firing the Rilfe when Folded. And Yes! those DTA Coverts are Nice! I wouldn't mind having one of the Coverts or SRS rifle but Boy do they cost a pretty penny! It'll have to be on the wish list for a Long Long time...:(

Re: Let's see your short/folder rifle Pack/Case Setup!

I got my KRG around the end of April. Mine is for a Rem 700 SA not a Tikka which might explain the wait. I think they explain the differences between GenI and GenII on the KRG website.
