AI AE Magnum

Is there a long action / magnum version of the AE rifle in the works or did this get scrapped?

For those in the know...

1. Is it going to happen?
2. If it's going to happen, do we see this in 2012?
3. Are we going to get a 300 WM or 338 Lapua option?

I don't exactly consider myself "in the know", but I can tell you with a good degree of certainty that you will not see it this year, if at all.

Are they worried about canabalizing AW/AX sales or is the demand not enough to justify the investment in a new action?

I am by no means an AI expert...nor do I own an AI or have owned an AI but I would wager that since the AE is "Marketed" towards Law Enforcement, there really is no need for a magnum caliber.

I believe they built and displayed prototypes at Shot in 2011. At some point the wheels were turning in that direction.

I believe it was an experiment. I don't know that production was ever a goal, but I have no way of confirming that.

I held and played with the models at the 2011 SHOT. They were absent for 2012.

Are you talking about the 7wsm? I have talked to AI since then and as far as I was told, that was just something they were playing with and not something they are planning to build.

No, not the 7wsm. They had a true long action variant in 338ai.

Could a gunsmith open the bolt foce on an existing rifle so you could use the short magnum cartridges?
