Say hello to my little friend

Re: Say hello to my little friend

This got MY attention:

At 1,000 meters, the LWMMG is capable of defeating Level III body armor and incapacitating soft skinned vehicles by delivering over 1,900 foot pounds of energy to the target

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Looks like fun, might also mean .338 cal tracer becomes available!

Re: Say hello to my little friend

I need one of these!

Re: Say hello to my little friend

nice, expensive as hell to shoot but very very nice,

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Jimmy Sloan called this little gem to my attention last week. Apparently, this is the direction that the 338 NM was headed from its inception, and it benefits from 9 million dollars in the development costs of the 50 caliber XM806.

Way to go!

Was impressed when I watched the video

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Stupid question from those of us without any experience in the matter...what would be the point of trying to hit a point target at 1000+ yards firing at cyclical rate? And if the goal is area suppression, then why not just waste 7.62x51?

Try carrying all the ammo. Humping a 7.62 cal M240B around in the stan is bad enough. Try adding the additional weight of those heavier rounds. However, as a vehicle mounted weapon system, This thing would be devistating!

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Wow! A mouse fart would have created more barrel movement than the recoil did. i'd love to shoot that thing just to see how well it stays on target...

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Interesting.

I wouldn't have thought of making a "precision" machine gun. But I guess innovation is necessary.

And as was said, I wouldn't want to foot the ammo bill.

Re: Say hello to my little friend

It looks Like a 240. If they secure a major contract one of 2 things will happen: brass will be more availible and cheaper or impossibe to find.

Why wouldn't you want the most accurate weapon possible?

Re: Say hello to my little friend

very cool
though its hard to see the phrase "Game-Changer" without thinking of a certain TV show and laughing to myself

Re: Say hello to my little friend

Awesome. Would probably prove useful across some ridges and valleys like the 'stan. Ammo is gonna be a lot heavier, but wow not nearly as heavy as a 50 and its gonna chew up unarmored vehicles pretty well anyway.

Because it makes too much sense and someone wouldn't get a new contract!

Re: Say hello to my little friend

I cannot speak from experience, but the thought of being at the receiving end of precision bursts from 1,500 yards out would be unsettling. It might even keep me from ever coming within a range where "area fire" would be an effective counter measure.
