i recently purchased the "Savage 10FCP LE 308 HS PREC STK" and am anxiously waiting for delivery to my ffl.
i am absolutely new to long range shooting. well thats not neccessarily true. i have been shooting guns since age of ten and consider myself a pretty damn good marksman, but its the whole science behind it that leaves me dumbfounded.
i need help choosing a decent scope for this gun in the range of 700-800.00 i want something that i can use with a ballistic software so i can dial it in(put the dope on it)and confidently make those long shots without sticking a wet finger in the air and guessing.
i know thats probably asking alot.
i dont even know where to begin. help please.

Re: need help choosing a scope

With that low of a price point you should go to valdada.com or swfa look in their demo section.

I think valdada, Vortex or SS will be the some of the best choices at that price point, but would try and get a demo for sure.

as far as range, it depends on what you will use the gun for.

Re: need help choosing a scope

I don't have any data with me on hand but using whatever memory cells I have left in the recall dept of my brain a 175 gr bullet in 308 will drop approximately 240 inches give or take a few inches. Your concern with your scope should not be be power in as much as do you have enough internal adjustment for elvation to get you there. In most cases shooter will compensate by using a 20 moa base mount for their scope and than purchase a scope that has at least 45 to 50 moa adjustment. That means you should have 90 to 100 clicks that you can dial in your scope if it is 1/4 moa adustable. Forty 5ive or fifty up or down elevation. A 3-9 x40 scope or a 10x is more than enough for 1000 yds. If you want more power than you need to increase your budget to be able to find the scope that will give you what you want and need.

Re: need help choosing a scope

I talked to a guy on the hide that is a vortex dealer and he had some good prices on the viper pst. $690-$700 for a viper pst 4-16x50 sfp mil/mil with a reticle similar to night force mlr2. 30mm tube and Illuminated reticle. In the forsale section in the hide there is a guy who has a ffp pst 4-16x50 mil/mil for $799.
Both of these scope would be a good choice to get started and possible upgrade later.
With what you want in a optic by you op the main thing you want is matching adjustment and reticle. By this I mean mil/mil or moa/moa. This will let you dial your dope or just hold over with the same poi.
If you would like the guy's info who that I'm talking about pm me and I will give it to you.
