We will also have at least one sniper match this season. Known distance, but no flags and target only visible for a few seconds. More on that as we get closer to deciding which match to do it on.

Rules as follows:

Registration will begin at 7:15 AM and close at 8:00 AM. First rounds down range at 8:30 AM. Cost is $15 and prizes will be awarded by class.

I hope to be there on the 14th, I really enjoyed the last match. Lots of nice rifles on the line. Looking for another big turnout. Palo Alto is a first class range, run by a bunch of great guys.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Here's the scores, short and sweet. It was a gorgeous day with typical Palo Alto winds. Steady half value winds prevailed for most of the day with gusts between 15-18mph. It was great seeing a lot of the local tactical shooters out on the line for the first time and the familiar faces that we enjoy shooting with. For those interested, I filled out what those rifles/calibers that I knew were on the line. If anyone else knows those that I missed feel free to post them up.

I thought I would make the May match but it looks like I will have to cross my fingers for June. Needless to say, I'm not too thrilled.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

I'm going to pass on this one (work always gets in the way) but I will make the June one and a couple buddies of mine want to come also. I had a blast at the last match.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Ok guys, just got off the phone with Rick. As of right now we are looking at an 80% chance of rain for tomorrow morning. We will still be there at the range in the morning unless it is pouring down rain. Please check the weather in the morning and make the call on if you feel your ride there is worth the chance of a rain out. We hate to just call off the match and it not rain tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather man is wrong and we will try to get a string in or two.

Field Precision Rifle Match at Palo Alto 6/9
Our next 600y FPR match is Saturday 6/9 at Palo Alto.
Registration is from 0715 to 0800, with first rounds down range at 0830.

Spectators welcome.
Please bring eye and ear protection.

If anyone has any questions they can PM Chaser2020, Ritten, or myself.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Once again the rain gods stayed away and 11 shooters got to shoot in some relatively calm conditions......until the 3rd string! Then it got challenging.
Ritten took the win!

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

FPR Match Results 6/9/2012

11 shooters showed this morning despite the 80% chance of rain that was in our forecast. The June FPR Match at Palo Alto yielded some prodigious (that one is for you Jimbo since Rick forgot to give you the “word of the day”) scores. Skies stayed clear for the entire match but the winds were a bit twitchy. Jim Speaks, driving in from Mississippi, took the “No Bag” class shooting his 6x47 with an impressive 583-11X. Ted Torres shooting a .260 rem took home class winner in the “Bag” class with an outstanding score of 587-22X, only 1 point from a High Master score. Peter Fisher took 2nd in bag class shooting his Lapua with a respectable 583-17X.
Hoping to see everyone for the July FPR match at Palo Alto on 7/14!

Has it been raining in the morning or afternoon down there? 50% for tomorrow.

We should be good to go for tomorrows match.
We'll be done before the afternoon showers get cranked up.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Mickey, thank you and Rick for all your hard work. Palo Alto is a nice range with alot of good people. I enjoyed shooting with ya'll and look forward to the next match.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

I had a great time. Much thanks to all those who helped me and the other rookies throughout the tournament.

I was made to feel welcome, given helpful advice and the use of a rear bag. I saw someone else loan his rifle to a guy who was having trouble (now that's something in my eyes).

Thanks again to everyone involved,

Chad

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

I'm looking to start shooting in the Palo Alto Field Precision Rifle Matches and I have a couple of questions for you all if you don't mind answering them.

1) Is a 300 win mag a legal gun to use in these matches?
2) I don't have a shooting mat is that something that is required?
3) When is the next match?
4) I have never scored or worked the pits at a range is that something I will need to learn first before shooting in a match like this?
5) Can you use a rear bag or mono-pod?
6) What is the fee to shoot in the competition?
7) Is the shooting done from a prone set up?
8) How many rounds are shot?

Thank you for all your help,

Malcolm Schuler III

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Welcome Malcolm:

Palo Alto is a great place to shoot and the folks there are very helpful. I'm new there as well but will tell you what I know.

1. Yes, the 300 is legal but its gonna be rough for you towards the end of the day.
2. No shooting mat required. I lay on the ground. Sometimes other shooters will let you use theirs. You can use mine if you would like.
3. I think the next match is Aug 11th but Rick or Mickey will confirm that shortly.
4. Scoring and working the pits is easy and you will pick it up quickly. I have to ask questions sometimes but everyone there is very helpful.
5. They have two classes; bag or no bag. I shoot with no rear bag. You cannot use a monopod. If your rifle has one(mine does) just keep it folded.
6. It was $15 last time I shot.
7. Shooting is done prone.
8. You will shoot three strings of 20 rds per string with a max of 8 sighters if you need them.

Come on out. You will have a great time.

Re: 2012 FPR Match Season at Palo Alto- LA

Hey Malcolm!
I sent you answers in a reply to your PM. But, Ashland had it right on all accounts. Hope you make it out on the 11th.

Only thing to add is that you are allowed a total of 8 sighters.
4 on the first string, 2 on the second,, and 2 on the third. All of which are convertable.(meaning you can convert sighters to score as long as they are consecutive.)

Come on out, you will have a great time.
