Im working on a spring loaded ar500 steel target. Im going to buy the torso from someone on here and just make my own setup for the spring loaded part. I was wondering if anyone have one, can they snap some shots of the folding mechanism and just general build shots so I can get a better idea on how to fab it? I have an idea, but I dont want to go thru with welding it all and the first shot flips it over.

We haven't done it yet but we were thinking about using the springs from the big overhead doors. Cutting them to size and welding the target to one side and a wheel flat on it's side to the other. Not sure how it's going to work but an idea anyway.

Yeah Im brain storming too.. I guess I can make the spring hinge and base assembly out of mild steel and use the ar500 for the target only, right? Basically Im asking if the base etc ( all but the target ) need to be ar500 too, or just the target

Re: Does anyone have/made spring loaded steel targets?

Im trying to pin down an IPSC 100% or maybe 66%? I know about Bigdog ( osuarchitect ) and JCsteel ( jcvibby ) . Does anyone else know of a place to get IPSC or just torso ar500s?

Re: Does anyone have/made spring loaded steel targets?

I would start with a 66% plate first. The problem is thats a 22 pound plate. The spring would have to be huge!!! We have a spring back popper with a 5 inch AR500 pepper popper. And we had to buy the biggest torsion 1 inch springs we could find.

I would recommend you get a 66% with two holes in the bottom of the body. That way you can run some grade 8 bolts through the bottom holes and try to somehow attach springs to them.

Everything behind the target can be mild steel because it won't even get touched.

Hit me up, well work something out

Like this? 66% IPSC, AR500, 3/8ths, with a tab on the bottom that fits into the base and has springs on both sides to absorb recoil and stay upright. Front face is AR500 also so you can't shoot the square tube base.
