I've always heard that the barreled action should not rock in it's stock. The load is Hornady A-Max 168GN.over 42GR. of Varget I fired a three round group at 50yds. which was one hole under .5" which seemed fine for me. I moved out to 100yds. but then couldn't get a group worth a crap. I thought maybe it could be my Nikon Monarch 4x16x40 going bad since the only thing I changed was the side focus/parallax. I check for cross hair movement while setting it and when I looked, it was dead on the 100yd. mark on the adjustment knob. I noticed when I set the barreled action in the stock I could push down on the pillar under the tang and the front pillar back and forth and get a rocking motion? The only way both pillars can be made to make contact is by tightening the two action screws in other words, just setting the barreled action in the stock both pillars do not touch the action in a resting position. The reason I'm really concerned is because I planned to install a Timney #510 trigger and a Bell & Carlson stock but, don't want to waste the money just to find out I have a bad barrel

All help would greatly appreciated!

The stock that comes wi it sucks big donkey dong! I ditched it as soon as possible. After that, the rifle really started to sing. Look into a XLR.

If funds are a issue you should look into Bell and Carlson Stocks! For about $200 bucks you'll have all your problem solved and rifle Upgraded!!!

I think the first of next month I'll go ahead and give the Bell& Carlson a go hopefully it will make this thing group much better. Thanks!

Consider getting it bedded as well, it seems to do considerable improvement in accuracy.

Re: Rem. 700 SPS AAC-SD .308 stock problem?

As others said the stock that comes with the 700 AAC-SD is garbage. I switch mine out for an AICS and my groups went from 1 - 1.5" at 100yds to 1/2 -3/4".

Once you switch, if you see occasional fliers that are not from improper trigger press, skim bed it. There is a thread in the gunsmithing pages that will walk you through it. I did mine own and it wasn’t that difficult. Now it is an honest .5-.6 moa shooter, occasional holding tighter.

FWIW I went with the B&C light tactical, been very impressed. I like it almost as much as my manners T-4 and mcmillan A-5.

One shot may be 2-3" right and the next shot may be 2-3" to the left and high an low changes also. I shot 9 rounds at one target though and 5 were scattered but 4 made a ragged hole between .5-.75"? Part is probably me trying to figure out how the rifle likes to be held firmly medium or light squeezing the rear bag with my left hand or, should I grasp the forearm with my left hand since it's a short barreled rifle. I know that does, make a lot of difference with some rifles. Both my .223 and .204 I load for will group .5" 5 shot groups or less quite often. so I do think it has a lot to do with the gun or scope. Thanks!

Mine was a good shooter with the factory stock. Held about 1moa. I dropped mine into a HS Presion vertical/tactical stock, no bedding, just torqued it to spec and mine dropped to a.5 moa gun with factory ammo. The HS will run you about $125 more than the B&C, but another good option to look at. Also check out the forums here, alot of good stocks for sale.
