Obvious choice if we are going to position 60% of our navy back in the Pacific. I have many fond memories of Subic Bay, the Bario, balut, and LBFMs!

Will be interesting to see if they do it. I was stationed there from 12/86 to 6/88 with A Co Marine Barracks and had a great time.

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

That doesn't mean we will actually re-open the bases, they just gave us permission to ask them if we could send military people and equipment there. Plus, with all the private construction on those bases it would take a lot of money to get them back open. I could see using Subic bay for Navy though.

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

Nope actually Slim's was the main hang out. Was there on opening day Christmas day 1986. We did hang at T's too when the boats wrrent in port. Also the guys hung at the Rolling Stone as well. Had to get a massage at Samurai every now and then too.

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

Maybe that explains the story I read in the Casper paper today.

Seems in 1907, some Philipenes natives attacked a viliage guarded by 70 US Soldiers, killing 47.

The next day a company of soldiers retook the town, pretty much destroying it.

It seems there were three bells used by the natives to singal the attack.

When soldiers brought the bells back with them and two were used as a memorial to the slain during the Philipene war at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyene WY (back then it was an army post).

So now the State Dept wants to give the bells back the the Philipenos.

Veteran groups and the WY State Government are up in arms over the deal.

This would set a presidence of giving back other memorials to offending countries.

Remember crossing "Shit River" many times. Where's the "Shit River Queen" that would show her tits? She had a kid that would dive in for the Pesos that we would throw in the shit and surface with them in his teeth? Does this bring any memories back?

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

Rob, we were there about the same time. I got my Padi open water diver there from Sea US on 11 Dec 87. We'd dive the reefs and sunken barges at Grande island. Stayed at the White Rock hotel.

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

Favorite place was the Rock Lobster out in the Bario. Subic Bay was truly an adult Disneyland. They could spot a cherry boy a mile away too!

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

That's cool Robot. Ever remember getting yelled at by this guy at the main gate? LOL

Slims was cool, that and the Freaks Stagger Inn, (I think that is what my shirt says)

We hung at some other bar but I don't' recall the name, go figure.

Subic was definitely a party, and a blur ...

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

All I ever remember much about Subic was the morning after. Had to puke and crap simultaneously, all topped off by the the worst fricken' headache ever. The San Miguel shits.

My last stint in PI was down in the south for most of 2009. Still, we got to party hard in Manila whenever the boss would let us brief the Embassy. As you can imagine, I always had some brief prepared when the boss called, just in case.

In my experience, Red Horse hangovers are MUCH worse than the San Mig hangovers. Ack, and I've got bad memories of the Tanduay as well. I've never had a better time than the Philippines though.

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

San Miguel was horrible. Always got horrible hangovers and the shits from it. Went to Red Horse and life was better. All I drank down there.

My buddy Wondo doing his recreation of a peso show LOL Yes he does have shorts on

Re: USA to reopen Philippine

Rob, you and I need to drink together then. I'll trade all my Red Horses for your San Migs. Get ourselves a whole pork lechon and let the fun begin.
