I'm looking very hard at this rifle Crusader and am ready to pull the trigger. I'm having trouble getting in contact with them. They show this coming with a Mcmillan A5 stock, but their pics don't show this having an adjustable cheek piece. Are there any particular cons to this model? I would prefer a manners stock over this the A5, but honestly don't have experience with either. How is the Templar action? Thanks in advance..

Re: GAP Crusader

Flynn - can't answer all your questions but having bought a GAP M40A1 clone around 3 years ago I can tell you that George and his team are great guys to deal with and very helpful when it comes to matching your spec. I am sure if you give them a call and want to change the stock they can help....but it may cost a little extra as the price quoted is "as spec'd"?

McMillan do say "straight comb, saddle, integral & thumbwheel adjustable cheek pieces available" on the A5 stock. It may increase your lead time if you opt for a different spec.

I changed the standard HTG on my M40A1 build to the adjustable version HTG and that pushed the build time out quite a bit...McM lead time was the issue, not GAP.

Re: GAP Crusader

The Templar action is real solid! You cannot really go wrong with the Crusader, it is a good spec and is often in stock. Adjustable buttstock spacers and cheekpiece options are available but will cost more and very likely add to your wait time. ( personally I prefer the adjustable goodies!)

Make sure you leave a message, they will call you back.

Re: GAP Crusader

Contact either KLin@GAP or A10XRIFLE here on the Hide or call 816-221-1844 and leave a message if no one answers. The Crusader is a great product using top end products. Add-ons are available and as mentioned, but may extend your delivery date because it's likely they won't have an A-5 set-up to match your specific requirements.

Re: GAP Crusader

Personally, I like the Manners stocks. They are worth the extra wait. There are a few manners stocks for sale right now in the classifieds. The Crusader is a very solid rifle, and lives up to its accuracy guarantee. Here's mine in the T4A.

I've left voicemails and emails, communication with them at this point is very poor. Not sure I want to send that much money to a company that doesn't communicate better.

Re: GAP Crusader

Flynn,

The GAP guys build something like 2000 rifles per year and can sometimes be difficult to get in contact with. However, Ken has always been VERY good about getting back to me when I've sent him an e-mail. They are also known to go on group hunting/fishing trips on occasion, and may be out of town for a few days. In any event, I can tell you from personal experience that you can't go wrong with a Crusader...worth every penny. If in fact you decide to buy one (and I've seen they've had a couple finished and ready on their "Rifles Ready to Ship" webpage the last week or so), once you get behind it you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about. See the link below for a little report on mine. The downside is that GAPs are like Lays potato chips. You can't have just one (LOL).

That looks amazing in the Manners T4A. Very nice rifle! Is that a Premier 3-15?

Re: GAP Crusader

I agree, that they are hard to get in contact with. I've been trying to order a t-shirt for 2 months now. But, their rifles are awesome. They definately seem to have the biggest name, but there are Lots of other good builders out there as well. I've seen some excellent rifles from Short Action customs and Predator Custom Shop and numerous others.

And yes, that is a premier 3-15 on mine.

Re: GAP Crusader

Get a Crusader! You'll love it. The Templar action is very smooth and the gun is an absolute shooter.

Re: GAP Crusader

Purchase without hesitation. Everything GAP is top shelf.

I had a non-typical built and am sold forever. The rifle is just awesome and I'm confident anything you pruchase from GAP will leave a giant smile on your face.

Due to the fact that every one and their brother wants a GAP, its sometimes hard to get a hold of them but patience is the key. I"d much rather them spend their time cranking out rifles instead of just talking to me on the phone, so be patient and they will respond. I would definitely not judge their customer service on the fact they are hard to get a hold of. I had a stock issue with a rifle and George went well out of his way to rectify it all free of charge and turn around was 1.5 weeks (once they had the stock/rifle, etc). So definitely do not question GAPs customer service, its top of the line without a doubt.

I currently am pending a 338LM build and know that it will not leave until its perfect.

With that, once your crusader arrives you'll understand why you waited.

Re: GAP Crusader

Maybe they're on a trip right now. I never had any trouble getting ahold of them last fall when I got my Crusader. They used to have a sticky thread here that told about trips, etc.

The adjustable cheek piece is an option. Check out the details on their website for the price. I bought a 'ready to ship' gun but had the multi-cam dip added. It took about a month to show up at my door. The dip is done by an outside vendor right down the street from them.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Crusader. It is by far the most accurate gun I've ever shot. I was doing some ladder testing recently with mine, firing 10 different powder charges at 300 yards. All 10 holes were within a 3 inch group. That's MOA accuracy even though each round was different, with the charges ranging from minimum to maximum.

Here's what the multi-cam looks like:

Re: GAP Crusader

I've never had trouble getting them. Not many bussinesses out there that you can call and ask to speak to the owner of a nationally known bussiness.

George could not pick me out of a lineup but has talked to me like a nieghbor on the phone a couple of times.

Re: GAP Crusader

George has been out of the country. Be patient.

So true, I drank the GAP punch and its been down hill from there.
My crusader is my favorite rifle I've ever owned, they will take care of you don't worry.

Re: GAP Crusader

If I was specing Crusader rifle , I would change 2 things , I ask if they can run the AW mag , and change the stock for a Manners folder .

I see the AW mag cut is no longer listed on GAP as an option ?

Re: GAP Crusader

Ok guys, here is the low down. Like mentioned above we get large amounts of phone calls and even larger amounts of email through the website. The best way to get in contact with Ken or I is by direct email.

If you do decide to call in, here is the best way: Call in and leave a voice-mail on one of our personal mail boxes. We cannot call you back if you don't leave a voice-mail. I can't stress this enough. Also, keep in mind that we are busy 24/7, if we don't get back to you that day, we will be sure to get back to you the next. There have been very busy moments when it has taken more than 2 days to get back to customers. Please be patient.

Re: GAP Crusader

The rifle will make you look like man among boys at the shooting range. Almost like cheating when shooting w/ guys who think a 300 yard shot on a deer is incredible. I bought mine used and put a NXS 5.5 x22 on it. It's a .308 that I hand load for. 1st attempt at 1k yards I put 5 out of six on target. It is truly an Awsome weapon

Re: GAP Crusader

Thanks for all the feedback, public and private. I'm sure I would have been happy with the Crusader, but opted for a barreled action (Bartlein 5R and the alpha 11 custom action) from Mark Gordon. I will mate this with a Mcrees. I'm stoked!

sounds like you have made a good choice, no bad one between the route you went or the GAP. good parts and a good smith, you should be happy.
