I need a longer range 300WM. Have always hunted everything with a 300WM Winchester Model 70 in a McMillan Featherweight stock. Found a Savage BVSS and it looks very workable. I just need to have a couple of Savage folk tell me how good it is in real life. Thanks

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

I've owned a few savages over the years.
But i always wind up putting them on my Trade list when another brand comes available. Savages are OK. Just not my first choice.

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

You cant go wrong with Savage. The are extremely accurate out of the box with a worked up handload. I own more Savages than any other rifle, theres a reason why. I say go for it you wont be disappointed.

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

i currently am running a 110BA in 300wm and i must say its an awesome set up. have shot the rifle out to 1000yds at 2.5 gallon water jugs with no problem running FACTORY ammo

Hornady 180gr. SST. all in all great stick for the money

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

Savage claims they build "the most accurate factory rifles available".

How's that for a warm, fuzzy feeling?

Buy all you want... they will make more!! You will love it!!

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

The .300WM is a bit peppier then my personal comfort zone can expand to embrace.

My preference for Bolt Action Rifles has favored the Savage line for at least a decade. I own three; two are factory rifles, and one is a highly upgraded custom (currently barreled in .30BR). They shoot quite well and don't let me down. I really don't ask much more than that from my rifles.

Savage has listened to their customers and has come a long way in the decade I've been one of them.

They have a wide enough selection that it's becoming hard to find a reason to build something that's both prectical and unique.

My factory rifles are a .260 Rem Predator Hunter Max I, and a Model 10 FCM Scout 7.62x39. Both shoot well, function without issues, and the 7.62x39 is also accurate enough to warrant load development.

For the record, I also own Remingtons, Winchesters, Rugers, and several service rifles both foreign and domestic. I like each of them for their specific purposes.

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

I have a couple of savages. Have a model 10 PC that I really like. That being said, when I first got the rifle, I was having trouble loading up some ammo that it liked. Finally found a load with the 168 SMK that prints 3/4" consistently at 100 yds for 3 shots. 5 shots will open it up a little bit unless I let the barrel cool. anyway, the point for me is that I finally found a load that it shot consistently. other loads were printing 2-3" groups that looked fugly.

then I picked up a model 700p last fall. I took all of the leftover reloads that the 10PC wouldn't shoot and fired them through the 700p. This rifle grouped everything except some rounds that were loaded at max with flat-base bullets.

I would take the 40x remington trigger over the accu-trigger any day, although the accu-trigger actually aint half bad. I would take the accu-trigger over the x-mark trigger.

I am a little biased toward the 700p based on my experience, but it is very possible that I got a good 700p and a not as good 10 PC. I could easily see the situation being reversed. This is just my experience.

I have a 112 bvss 300 wm. I love it.I did put a Criterion Barrel on it and is shoots one hole at 100 yards..I shoot 165 grn accubonds in mine...

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

If you are starting out they are the easiest to work on because of how simple it is to set the head space with the barrel nut. The best barrel company i have found for the savage is douglas barrels.

Re: Savage? give me some luv, please

I have a 10fp McMillan .308 that shoots exceptionally. If I'm having a good day and the wind is good it will stay below .5's with 155 A-Max's.
