Re: Action for bench rest build?

Bat is probably the top benchrest action. Check out the action tab on 6mmBR.com

Kelby
Stolle
Farley

Not saying that the knowledge isn't here but SH members are mostly Tactical shooters. Check out some Benchrest forums. Also you can search up the equipment list of a lot of BR matches and get the action and barrel.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

Stolle Panda or a Stiller drop port is what I use.

Both are very common on the line at a BR match.

+1 on Brunos. Had him build a 6BR on a Bat action and couldn't be happier.

Bat
Kelbly
Borden

Russ Hayden or Lester Bruno may have what you want in stock. Also check out the Benchrest Central website.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

when I shot on the benchrest circuit, I mostly seen Stillers, Borden, Bats, and alot of Rem. Never seen a Surgeon at a benchrest match.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

I have a Stolle Panda on my bench gun. Very nice action. +1 for a Bat. Very nice as well.

Regards, Paul.

Barnard makes some of the finest actions around. They are available in both single shot and repeater models. You won't regret using a Barnard action for your build.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

IN part it depends where you are located. If you have lots of small particle dust blowing about galling can be a problem with some of the softer actions (BAT and others). That having been said, in no particular order these are the ones that I saw in Houston on the line:

BAT
HALL,
Neseka
Stolle

TO that List I would add - Barnard. They make a hell of an action, as reflected by their showing in international F-Class, where they put at least 7 out of the top 10 places in all aspects of the 2011 worlds. The shooters were not bad either, but Barnard has proven itself highly accurate.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

Bench actions arn't like tactical.

Everyone pretty much concedes Surgeon is more or less the best tactical action. The choices arn't so easy with BR. Everything is tight and all have spent time winning.

You might want to go ahead and get some barrels on order to. The M40 barrels are pretty easy to find with distributors but straight tapers might not be. Go a head while you are waiting on an action.

Re: Action for bench rest build?

As much as I think Stiller actions are great, Jerry and the crew are extremely busy filling orders on the Predators, TAC and similar tactically oriented actions and do not have much capacity for the BR actions in their product line.

If you want a drop port, they are designed for cartridges built off of the 6 mm BR cases and smaller, I would give Defiance a call and talk to them about a BR action. Every action Defiance makes is made to order so you can get what options you want. I am just finishing up a build using one of their heavy tang, extended barrel tenon, drop port actions. My brass drops out of the bottom of the stock into a cup under the gun, I built this for my F-class open gun so I am using a fixed rest and neither the cup nor the gun move much. The heavy tang allows me to run without a recoil lug as I bedded the tang into the stock.

The Defiance action is smooth like butter. Glen Harrison owns Defiance and he started Nesika actions, which has been bought a couple of times, so he has a proven track record.

There are lots of good options and any of the top BR action builders will be able to build you an action that will shoot better than we can. The bitch is, with a great action, barrel, trigger, stock and reloads who are we supposed to blame?

Re: Action for bench rest build?

HAll actions have always been my favorite.

I actually am getting out of BR, and will sell a complete 2-barrel rig cheap (6ppc and 30BR). If you are interested, PM me.
