Onto making the barrels work. Machined very, very nice btw. Bartlein has always made a good stick.

1st barrel is all done. If TIR is any indication of accuracy potential this is about as good as it gets. -.00005" at the breech ring and .00006" at the body/shoulder junction.

About an inch left to go on the 2nd barrel chamber.

    Here's the stock!

It is. It just got a lot more interesting too.

The Panda is 1.500" in width. The flutes down the side of the stock got paper thin from the inlet. I've talked it over with the owner and we've decided to fill them in. I'm using carbon ribbon as the filler. We scuffed it, wetted it with resin, then soaked the ribbon and pressed it into the flute under pressure.

One side is curing now in the oven. I'll pop it loose later tonight after supper and do the other side. This way I'm still on track for bedding it tomorrow morning.

It worked pretty well I think.

    Gotta love the "frankengunz."

when the timing chain starts rattling and telling you it's time to change the guides, it's time to change the guides. not "meh, it'll make one more trip to the rubicon." (several times this went on before it finally shit the bed)

So stupid simple/cheap im embarrassed for not thinking of it sooner.

Cutting oil is tolerant to what? High pressure and shear right?

What other "erl" needs the same traits?

    Think backhoe. . .

$30/5 gallons. Me likes! At that price I can brush my teeth with it!

Clever! The hydraulic fluid for my Kubota looks nothing like that, and unfortunately does not cost anywhere near $6/gallon

Guy down the road from me was draining hydraulic fluid that looked like that from an old backhoe, running it through a piece of window screen. What happened? Oh, it was parked outside so long, the top of the tank rusted out, rain got in. What's the screen for? To filter out the dead mice. Gonna reuse it? Yah, it'll be good for one digging job. Yee-haw!

It's not a depth check. It's clearance on the sides at the show line. Just makes it easier to get in/out of the stock.

Did it this way cause I don't want the action chipping the paint during tear downs.

My pillar design eliminates any guessing when it comes to alignment with an action as it bottoms onto a register machined into the stock. Just a different way to skin the kitty.

I wish I could get my hands (my right hand, actually) on a Manner's F-class stock. I'm considering one for my first build (I've got the action, waiting on the barrel) but I'm afraid the pistol grip won't fit my small/medium hand very well, and my LOP2 will simply be too long.

I base this solely on reports that the Manners stock fits people with large hands better.

I was puzzled by the idea of having two barrels, but now that I think about it, it makes pretty good sense.

I just looked at that photo on it's own with out thinking a little farther on.I set up the stock with the trigger guard bedded and let the action just "float" in the compound to cure.

Most of the time spent to bed a stock is in getting ready to pour epoxy. It is not quite as easy as it looks from your great photo's.

I tape the top edge of the barrel aproximately 1/4" when bedding a pad under the barrel shank. I find that this reduces "flyers" as the barrel heats up especially in the lighter hunting rifles.
I do the same to the top edge of the action.

Thank you for all your time and effort to post this stuff here.
