Ive got a Leupold Mk4 3.5x10 LRT that I presume works great. Ive used it in the past to shoot out to 900m and now I use it to about 200m. Ive been reading alot recently and keep coming accross scope tracking and issues that Leupolds might have. Can someone please explain to me how I go about checking my scope's "tracking". Thank you.

Thank you, simple enough concept. And thanks for the help!

Re: How do you test scope tracking?

What would you recomend? More deviation from the original shot, or more rounds on each adjustment? Or a little of both?

Re: How do you test scope tracking?

That video gives you the general idea, but I would test it through the scopes' entire range. 3 minutes will not even get you to 300 yards in a 308.

ETA: I guess I hit the reply button a little late...I would test to at least the range you are shooting at. For example: If you are shooting a 308 with 175 grain FGMM to 1000 yards regularly, that equals approximately 38 minutes. I would track the scope all the way out to 38 minutes. That would be a big piece of paper....but well worth the piece of mind.

Thanks, I plan on taking out a BIG piece of white card board this weekend. I love the scope, its what we had in Iraq on the MK11 and 12s. Hopefully mine is good too.

Re: How do you test scope tracking?

In addition, its funny the things you learn out side a military school house. Things that you think youd be taught but werent. For example it didnt even dawn on me how much damage I could do by cleanining my M4 with a metal segmented rod, should it have sure, but it didnt! But it took me reading some forum to figure out.

Re: How do you test scope tracking?

Not at all brother Im a Marine and plenty use to taking some good natured ball busting, I just have no patience for the "use the search crowd" everyone was a newb once. Everything I know was learned from asking questions. What if my school house instructors responded with, read your book the answer is there?

I love forums, its an easy way to group like minded individuals together and enjoy the hobby. I have no patience for the "use the search crowd" it takes away from the community.

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but no Lazy21 Im not offended.

KILL!!!

Re: How do you test scope tracking?

If you have access to a plotter ( or any print shop, kinkos, etc), print out a tracking target at mil or .1mil subtensions. You can make your own, just get a piece of paper several feet long, and mark 3.6"@100yds, track up and down. You'll see insufficiencies if applicable.
