Currently shooting a TRG-22 in 308 but have a number of other semis. Great rifle. Would also like to try a 6.5 in a bolt gun (no, I don't need it, but when has that ever been a reason not to do something). Trying to figure out the best way to put something together that won't take a year. Also, I have small hands so am looking for something like an AR-type grip (need grip to be narrow and pull length to be short). So seems like AICS w/Viper skins, or an XLR or McRee stock might be the way to go. Trying to figure out whether to go all custom or just find a barreled action and trigger and drop into something like a McRee. I welcome any guidance. I have always had off the shelf rifles and never a custom build. Have read a bunch here but still don't feel like I know how to best approach this. I understand the pros/cons of 260 vs. 6.5 CM vs. 6.5 Lap.

Savage offers the 6.5 Creedmooor in the model 12 LRP, it comes with a decent HS Precision stock and factory DBM. It will bolt right into an XLR or McRee chassis and you shouldn't have any problem selling the stock and DBM to recoup some of your investment.

Could always contact bugholes, he has stillar actions and a few 6.5 barrels, then just locate a smith or have he do it.

Jared at APA may be worth a call, if you can get the parts they can put it together pretty quick. But ask him to be sure, could have a work load now.
Savage and Ruger are the only two factory suppliers that I am aware of. Aftermarket triggers for savage, I dont know anything about but I am sure they are out there.

The savage LRP has the target accutrigger and I can't see it being a problem, as for aftermarket triggers for savage, I use a SSS comp trigger, it is great, set at 1 1/4 right now, clean, crisp. Rifle basix also has a couple models for savage, I found the SSS comp to be better than the RB I tried.
The lrp also has a truck axle of a barrel, you'll be looking at getting $200 or so for that HS stock, so that helps some against the price of a chassis.
If you want to go lighter, the savage predator is an option.
You can also build pretty simply, buy a long range precision action, again, you'll have the target accutrigger, then buy a pre-fit barrel of your choice, and your chassis.
Or build off one of their other actions.

If you like your TRG, have you thought of the Tikka sporter in 260?

Look at the DTA.
Factory .260 barrel or have SAC or even DTA make you a 6.5 creed barrel.
Try a DTA and your whole thought process will change. They are pretty COOL!

I was in your shoes back in March. I was lucky at picking the pieces and reading a lot. When all was said and done, I ended up with an incredibly accurate gun. If I could have afforded to spend more, I would have got a Surgeon receiver. I hope that gives you some ideas.

sounds like McRee is the way to go for a stock, has AR grip and adj buttstock. just need a barrel action to drop in it, uses AI mags

I've got a savage LRP and it shoots really well with the target accutrigger and was ready to shoot for just over 9 bills.
On the other hand I've got a all out custom with surgeon xlr krieger that shoots in the .1s hand loaded and .3 with factory ammo but I've probably got 3200ish in it.

Thanks Buffy. Last one looks to be sold and others are not pistol stocks. Really looking for 6.5CM as well. I know if I hang long enough a nice one will turn up. That is always the dilemma vs. building.

260 Remington is best for a single loader since you don't have to worry about seating depth and it has more case/powder capacity, plus you can use .308 brass if you hand load. The 6.5 Creedmoor is great for gas guns and repeaters since the shorter case allows you run the longer high BC projectiles in a magazine.
