well i got my scope in the other day and i went out today to shoot my rra lar-308 today and no go

first rd did not chamber all the way or so it may have seamed , so i pulled the BC group back and let it go , seamed all was well , fired the first rd , was ejected and i went to pull the triger and it just clicked .

found that the BC group was not all the way forward , and that is when i noticed that i could not pull it back , live rd was stuck in the chamber and i could not pull the group back

long story short i got it out , but not sure what is going on , the bc group never seams to go all the way forward . these are my hand load from my 700 over all length is 2.820 , and they fit in thte mag

any ideas? try a factory load first or what ?

this was the 1st and 2nd rd threw the rifle .

thanks

Re: ar10 input

I would start by pulling the upper and lower apart, to make sure the buffer hasnt come out of the tube. I'f thats not the case I would check the weight of the buffer.

Re: ar10 input

its not the buffer it seams to be something to do with the rd , like a head space problem or my rd is not sized to fit this brl chamber on the AR ,

first thing im goint to try is to buy some factory ammo and see if she will fire them , if not im done ill send it back to rra and let them fix it

Re: ar10 input

I would suggest you try some factory ammo not reloads if they work you likely need to buy a small base 308 sizing die. This is not a dig on your reloads it is a fix I found when I built my MA-TEN llast year and had the same issue. Once I started using the small base die no more probelems over 1,300 rds (all my reloads) since with no malfunctions

Hope this helps

Re: ar10 input

It is a die designed specifcally for semi-auto sizing (they have them for 223 and 308)and it sizes the very last bit of the case extremley tight eliminating chambering issues. I run top shelf competetion Redding dies for my 308 bolt gun and did not beleve it would make a difference but it did.

I got mine from redding so I suspect you can find info on their website on the die

Re: ar10 input

ok i looked it up got it

small base to return fired brass back to close to unfired size , reading more about it now

thanks

Re: ar10 input

Loading for a gas gun is way different from loading for a bolt gun. You must full-length resize, you can't just "bump the shoulder back". Many say that small-base dies are not required and I tend to believe them, but I use small base dies for mine because I expect my ammo to work in any and all my ARs in addition to any other guns I may pick up.

My Lyman manual says max OAL should be 2.800, so I go 1 better and seat mine to 2.790 max to insure they all fit in my mags with no problem. You will find that all the little accuracy tricks that work on bolt guns may not be the best idea on self-loaders. And you probably won't miss them either with that RRA-they're famous for accuracy.

Re: ar10 input

well this is my first ar10 , have had a number of ar15 but never reloaded for them , my reloads are for my 700, i do full length resizeing ,

thanks for the input , first step ill go with some box ammo from academy and make sure she funtions properly then look into reloading for it !

thanks

Re: ar10 input

Could be the base die is needed, but I think that FL sizing would make it fit just fine. If you already FL sized, was the die screwed in enough to the press? It wouldnt take much to get that shoulder off from what it should be.

Re: ar10 input

your rifle is doing the same mine was doing originally . I had to bump down all my loads to 2.810 to solve this issue. yes i was full length sizing my brass using RCBS competetion dies

I was using Hornady 170bthp's
