Finally finished out my "dream" rifle! It's a .260 chambered with reamer to seat the 140 class bullets in AI mag. built by the guys at Vestal's gunsmithing in Abingdon (Col Kurtz and Excalibur on here). All the initial groups are looking to be sub 0.5moa at a lil more than 2700fps with no pressure.

Surgeon 591
Lilja 3 groove 21"

Seekins bottom metal and rings
jewell trigger

Re: Dream build done!

Looks great Buster.

A few questions: what contour is the barrel? What are your thoughts on how the action feels?

Re: Dream build done!

It is a #6 contour. Weight ended up being 11.4 lbs as shown with a loaded 5rd mag. I love the action, this is my second surgeon, other is single shot WSM both, shoot tight and run like butta . Had an extractor problem with this one at first but sent bolt back to surgeon and all is well now.

Re: Dream build done!

usually just call her something derogatory, she likes it when I talk dirty.

Re: Dream build done!

Just shy of 5k for everything...def could have found a used one cheaper but had always wanted to do a ground up build. Load I'm using now is with the 139gr scenar and 45gr of h4350 in lapua brass

Re: Dream build done!

Will give it some sorta paint in the future...rather shoot it for now...still needimg ideas for paint!

Re: Dream build done!

Excaliber is a good guy to deal with I just recieved a left hand remington 700 .308 barreled action from him that was his. After I shoot the barrel out I look forward to having a build done by him.

Re: Dream build done!

Buster, I have no doubt about it. Like I said shoot the rifle for a bit he may get it back to have a build done.

Re: Dream build done!

There is something very satisfying about picking out every part you want (and have been thinking about for months) and getting it all together in one package. Cant get that most times with a used gun even though they are a lot cheaper most times. Congrats man!

Re: Dream build done!

Thanks xtremegunner, picking out all the specific components was a large part of the fun of it. It also opened my eyes as to the troubles facing the custom rifle and precision shooting community. All components picked were from top notch makers, and a large percentage of the components were not done up to the high standards that they should be held to when dealing with components that can potentially take a persons life if something goes wrong. Although all components were fixed and the customer service departments were nice about it, there should be such tight QC on these type of products that no faulty part could get onto the market to malfunction in the first place. Again, great products but unless management in the companies steps up QC I see several of these companies going under.

Re: Dream build done!

BusterB, you should put up pics of the groups you shot with it. Show everybody what she can do. Great shooting by the way. We need to get together and do some shooting soon.
