First time trying past 945.
Set up the other side of the ridge last weekend for some long shots with the Barrett 338LM. I only use cheap targets since it's public land 20 minutes away and can disapear anytime, They are just under the numbers. Started at 1500 and had 3 out of 10 hit, then went to 1650 with fisrt 12 shots hiting all around it, then got two hits in a row. Then a little breeze started and they started going all over and I quit. I havn't got wind in the canyon figured out yet. Got some good video of it, but my new laptop has no firewire port, when I figure out how to get off the cam, I'll post. This is the range setup and the 945 target.

Pretty neat. What bullet are you shooting? I've got a .300 Lapua I need to stretch it's legs. I haven't had it past 1000 in a longtime.

I am gonna cry! Please don't shoot saw blades. There are a lot of great knives in that steel! I am sure they have a good ring to them though.

250 scenars and 91g Retumbo for loads, not real hot at 2829 but consistant.

Had a bunch of those blades that were done, so the price was right. I really thought they would hold up better. The 308, 22=250, and 223 only dents them, but the 338 blows through.

That is my $25 Craigslist bench I modified with a bigger top covered with carpet and a strap across the front to load bipod on.

What you need is an AR500 Steel Target!!!

BTW, nice shooting, looks like great scenary down there.....The bench looks pretty neat!

I know how you feel shooting across canyons. It can be super frustrating , and wind almost invisible

Re: 16" target at 1650 last weekend

Problem with using AR steel is that I leave the targets up since it's a 12 miles round trip of 4wd road and they would disappear.

Yes it's frustrating. I know wind is all part of the learning, but the problem I have in here is it's rolling because of all the draws. You should see the wind indicaters, there are times when they look like little moving wads rolling up on themselves. There is one spot about an hour away on top of the mountain that has an open 2000 yds. Once the snow melts and I can get in there I will be switching ranges for the summer.

Re: 16" target at 1650 last weekend

Good idea leaving them. We have been taking down each time on a similar set up and it takes forever! Kills half your shooting time.

Re: 16" target at 1650 last weekend

we also shoot on BLM land, and leave our AR500 targets up at the end of shooting. What we do is bury them in the general area, leaving the stands up. We've seen shotgun shells in the area from bird hunters who passed by but decided the 24x24" plate was too heavy to bother with.

The AR500 will ring alot louder, and like we use a 24x24, you'll get alot more hits on target, and when painted white, you can see what is happening with good black splotches on the target.

Re: 16" target at 1650 last weekend

We use one of our buddies 4 wheelers to go fetch targets and setup when we are shooting at any length of distance.

Typically we can get it accomplished much faster than in my truck or either of my brothers. The 4 wheeler just seems to handle running around the mountains here better.

I would also recommend the AR500 targets. I know it sucks to move them, but they are much nicer to shoot at.
