Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

I have, and yes, it hurt like a son a bitch.

I threw a case into my Hornady single stage and started pulling the lever down before I had a chance to pull my finger out of the way. I have a circular bruise/cut on the palm side of my finger and hole in the top just below my knuckle.

Note to self: slow down and pay better attention to what you're doing.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

did the same thing years ago with a 38spl, it will never happen again, like you said "slow down".

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

Did it with a 9mm casing once. Entry and exit out the other side, just beside my fingernail. I keep my booger hooks clear of the die now

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

In 30 years I have pinched, mashed, perforated, and plugged my sacrificial left hand. The one good thing is its my left...can't use it to rub one out anyway, it is the retarded brother of my right.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

I picked a rock chucker press up by putting my hand around and through the head of the press and the handle fell down ,i panicked and raised it up quickly to grab the handel and caught the handle under a table top .Boy did that hurt ,thought i broke a few fingers .Arnie

Now that's funny right there, don't care who y'are.

I was letting my 5 yr old son (now 23) pull the handle while I swapped out 45 cases during resizing/decapping. I didn't get my hand out fast enough once and the decapping pin went in just behind my fingernail. It took all I had to remain calm and not let him know how bad he'd hurt me.

+1 lol

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

It wasn't the decapping pin for me. I was expanding a .40 s&w case and caught my fingertip between the die and freshly deburred and chamfered case. I still have the half-moon shaped scar on my index finger.

Been there..done that. Be like the preacher that was gonna buy the hard crankin lawn mower. "just pull the rope 20 or 30 times and cuss it a bit and it will start right up."
"Oh I don't think I could cuss it, I haven't cussed in many many years."
"Well pull that handle 20 or 30 times and it'll come back to ya."

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

I have done it several times. But more than once was with 45acp.

Unfortunately for me I'm left handed. Gotta hate when you damage your jerker.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

Never hurt myself on the reloading press, but I did pull this off re-assembling a Lee-Enfield bolt in a hurry.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

That is sad and unfortunate right there

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

LOL
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. But, I'm guilty. I was tired from working 24 with 2 hours sleep. I thought I would be safe to deprime and tumble before I took a nap. I was slow, but, don't do it tired either.

??? Were you assembling it in a tornado? Wow.

I've heard of punching a finger with decapping pin. Never done it myself and never thought it was that common!

That was careless!!

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

I didn't puncture my finger with a decapping pin but while reloading 9mm I ended up with about a 200 degree circle cut in my finger that was somehow 9mm in diameter. Hasn't happened a second time and hoping it won't.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

I learned my lesson by watching y buddy put a decapping pin right thru his knuckle. Watching someone else do it is the bestest way to learn.....

Damn, ouch. I can only imagine the presence of mind that said, "You know what, I should really take a picture of this because no one will believe me if I tell them."

Tetanus shot anyone?

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

And here I was, thinking this was about that joke I used to play on my son when he was little; "Hey quick, pull my finger!"

Beano always worked for depriming my finger then...

Seriously though...Ouch, that's going to leave a mark!

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

There's primers in our fingers?

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

Learned the hard way not to take the forend off of your Rem 1100 and release the bolt. Gas rings caught and removed a 1/4" x 3/4" chunk of skin from my left hand ring finger.

Re: Anyone ever deprimed their finger?

Yep, I successfully deprimed my finger, small primer pin for .223.
That sucker took an abnormally long time to heal too.

Had a similar situation on a Century Arms AK. If you're a lefty you CAN'T hold the rifle by the mag or your thumb ends up in the path of the bolt handle. Lucky for me I didn't break my thumb, but just lost a good portion of my thumbnail.
