I'm looking for a piece of CLOSED cell foam to replace the middle piece of foam (the piece you cut out) in my pelican 1700 and 1750 cases. The flimsy piece that pelican sends you is just that flimsy, im tired of my foam just flopping around everytime i pull my gun out.

Anybody know where i can get a piece of closed cell the same dimensions as pelicans foam or at least the same thickness and not break the bank?

Re: closed cell foam for pelican

I can't help you with the foam, but I know what you're talking about. I had the same problem with mine. Someone suggested gluing the middle piece of foam to the back piece of foam with aerosol adhesive. Problem solved

Re: closed cell foam for pelican

The Pellican distributor in Vancouver WA has a huge custom foam shop and can likely sell you the stuff your looking for, I have bought some items from them other than that I have no connection.

Re: closed cell foam for pelican

I have numerous Pelican gun cases and the best way I found around this issue was to glue the two pieces back together after cutting the middle section out. I tried the aerosol glue as mentioned above, but it didn't work for me (maybe I bought the wrong brand?). Anyhow, I found that the clear silicone adhesive worked really well, so that's what I've used on all of them. Just run a bead around all the areas you've cut out, then slap it back down on the bottom section. I then place several medium weight books across it and let it sit overnight to dry.

Re: closed cell foam for pelican

There used to be a member on here that sold replacement foam. I believe it was closed cell.

If you don't mind me asking, what density are you thinking of using? I have a nice Pelican case that I need to redo the foam for.

Not any longer and he only got it in large pieces which had to be cut down.

Re: closed cell foam for pelican

I went to the Foam Factory today. They were friendly and helpful and I got to check out all the foam. I intended to get closed cell foam, but after seeing the price of the one I preferred of $44+ and the $20 Charcoal Firm Foam 1-1/2" thick which is just like the foam that came with the Pelican Case, I decided on the Charcoal (not to mention I have a bunch extra now. If I glued it I could make another insert for the case.) Also, I'm pretty happy I didn't get screwed paying $80 for the exact same OEM foam.

They have free shipping for orders over $75. The closed cell foam polyethylene was like a pool noodle foam but more coarse and the other closed cell cross matrix was like a life preserver foam. In all honesty, I didn't like either as much as the original foam. Very firm. The only other way I would go would be the closed cell gym rubber but you're looking at $65 or more. Though, if I had the money that would be my choice.

This is bauer cases response

We sell the foam as a set. Your pricing for a 1700 case would be $62.26 plus
shipping - foam only
For the 1750 case foam would be $73.43 plus shipping.
