Looking at the surefire m1 ir for a helmet. mounted on the side of an opps cor. Good choice? Better choices?

Thanks guys?

Re: Helmet light Surefire M1 IR? Good?

I use one on my Opscor. Perfect for walking in the dark woods. Just enough in my opinion when a larger illuminator is too big and too much bounce back/wash out. Probably equivalent to a 50-60 lumen white light with no nv.

Re: Helmet light Surefire M1 IR? Good?

IMHO the Surefire M1 is the best light for helmet use. To the man, all of us run this setup. I have one mounted on my OpsCore Base Jump and another on my Crye Air Frame. The light has a pre-focused beam that allows plenty of usable light, in a nice pattern. The throw is not what you will get out of a dedicated Weapon light but, that is not what it was intended for. For the helmet (or handheld), it is a fantastic navigation and search tool. It has a slight red quality at the emission point. Slightly visible (from the downrange perspective)at very close ranges. Most IR lights have this and, it is only viewable in a narrow path. Once you are slightly offline or, you get farther away, it disappears. I have never had an issue with an animal spooking from it and, it is non-visible at typical engagement ranges. I like it for being able to check my light, without having to use my NVD. Bottom line: hard to go wrong with this setup!
I have mine mounted in a VTAC light mount. You can check both of them out on the web at www.tnvc.com
Also, on the helmet page, you can see pictures of how we have them set up.

Hope that helps!

Re: Helmet light Surefire M1 IR? Good?

I agree with everything stated above. I use mine all the time navigating. Well worth the money.

Re: Helmet light Surefire M1 IR? Good?

Just to add, the SF M1 has probably the cleanest IR beam of them all. True effective range to see in the shadows at 70 yards.

Re: Helmet light Surefire M1 IR? Good?

I use one, too and like it for the helmet as the prefocused beam always lights path directly ahead, so for nav, its just about right.

For very close in tasks, I like the little Princeton, Tec Switch MPLS. Oh, and of course, don't forget the TNVC RFR...

I'm on it. Thanke everyone.

I got a surefire helmet light to mount on my Ops Core Base Jump just fine... however on the other side I do have a surefire m1 IR
