Little Help please.
I'm going to be in Ashville NC next week and I'm looking for two 8 lb powder kegs. Is there a local gun shop that sells reloading supplies. I know Weidners is an hour up the road but local pick-up are specified time on Tues./Thur only.

Re: Powder supplier in Ashville NC

About the biggest carrier, in the area, of loading supplies is Rex's down in Flat Rock off 26, Upward road exit toward 176, and I wouldn't guarantee you he has 2, 8lb kegs of what you are looking. What are you looking specifically?
Lots of the stores, including Rex's, around here are high as a cat's back. Even if they have something you can order it cheaper.
If you can tell me how you are coming to town and from what direction I can tell you some plces to look on your way. Unless you are flying.

Thanks for the reply. Boone, down the parkway to Ashville Mon - Wed. Wideners may be my best bet. Looking for IMR 4895 and Varget. Just did'nt want to make their pick up schedule.

Re: Powder supplier in Ashville NC

Wideners would be my choice.

I live about 3 miles from Rex's store in Hendersonville, NC. They do have the best stock I know of in this area and I buy small quanities of some items there occasionally ... but not often ... due to prices, especially their sky-high price hikes four years ago - I have a very long and bitter memory when a dealer I used for years decides to rip me off due to temporary shortages and have only been in there a couple-three times since '08.

I make trips to Jacksonville, FL, two-three times a year and stop at Sportsman's Warehouse in Columbia, SC, for powders/primers and most of my bullets too - THEY didn't jack up their prices during the frantic-panic period.

Me and Fuzzy obviosly agree on this one. I think the prices at Rex's reflect"because he can" and I too take a bit of umbrage, with what appears to be simple gouging.
I will likely go to the gunshow in Hickory this weekend and if you would like to PM me we can exchange contact info. If I find what you need at a pretty good price I could help you out. Lemme know.

Re: Powder supplier in Ashville NC

I grew up in Hendersonville and still go back to Rex's every time I'm in town. I don't find their prices all that terribly high. They are comparable to Sinclair on many items I buy, especially when you factor in shipping & handling. I do think their projectile prices are high, but powder and other supplies are OK, and Winchester .308 brass runs about $50/100 for a little less. Plus, how many gun stores are there nowadays that let customers wander behind the counter and finger-fuck all the guns on the rack?
