Suppressors Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

Looking for my first can and think I have narrowed it down to a Thunder Beast.

The primary rifle it will be used on is a 308 bolt gun. If possible, I may like to use it on a 5.56 AR.

I would like to have a brake on both rifles when not using the can although I'm willing to do direct thread on for the bolt gun if there are major benefits to it.

Are there any pronounced differences between the 30P-1 and the 30BA as far as accuracy and repeatability go? Is one quieter than the other? How effective are the brakes?

I also notice that most brake attach suppressors have a locking system. Thunder Beast doesn't look like it does. Is there any chance of the can coming loose?

Anything that can help a class 3 noob would be appreciated.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

Their performance for accuracy, repeatability, and suppression is the same. The brake is more effective than one of the AI single chamber brake, but not as effective as one of the large two-chamber brakes such as the Badger FTE or AI two-chamber, since it has to fit into a .30 caliber suppressor.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

It's advertised to not loosen, and it does have a locking system that doesn't require teeth or a manual latch.
It consists of the thread and the tapered shoulder, both combine to stop the vibration that can cause the can to loosen on the mount.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I was in the same boat you are in... I too picked the 30-BA for 2 .308's and 1 5.56 as the primary hosts... I've only been waiting roughly a month since I submitted my form 4 but I feel I made a good choice on a all around great can (TBAC customer service has been outstanding to say the least in answering all my concerns).

this is me, almost exactly. i ordered a 30BA to use on both a 308 bolt and a 5.56, but i am still in the manufacturing stage and will be hoping my form 3 gets submitted in a week or two. i think, the more i read, that i made a very good choice. i also think that either one would be superb its just whether you prefer one mount over another. and basically, thats all.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I understand that titanium is not friendly to high rates of fire. Is there any way to get an idea of what is possible?

I don't plan on mag dumps with my AR, but I may empty a 20 round mag with 2-3 seconds between shots every once in a while. Would that overheat the can?

I can't see why you would want to throw that expensive of a suppressor on an m4. 5.56 cans are coming down in price and if you're like most other ppl you're going to lust after suppresors in other calibers. Also, I feel that a can for an AR is going to be exposed to a lot of abuse, so you may as well get one specifically for the 5.56. Especially if an sbr could be in your future. Just my opinion, but id rather loose my Gemtech to a baffel strike from "on sale" ammo than a $1600 thunderbeast. Plus its not on my mine as I pull the trigger

For what it's worth, I went with the 30p-1. Im about a month into the wait. Went with that one b/c it was a little more affordable and the rest of the qualities are basically the same. If money wasn't an issue the 30ba may have gotten the nod. Or if I already owned a 300blk upper

Well the AR in question is generally used as a precision gas gun. I also figured that with the can being a 30 cal bore, the chances of a baffle strike with .223 would be a lot less.

Either way, I'm still not decided on using it on my AR.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I went with the 30P-1, just could not get over the big brake for the 30BA.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I went with the 30BA. The brake is small compared to the one I currently one on the TRG.

Sarcasm? That brake is seriously small compared to most others

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I too am a fairly new to cans, but I suggest that you go ahead and get a 223 can as well. I have a 30 cal YHM that I run on a AR, but it is somewhat cumbersome. The 30 P-1 or 30 BA are great cans. I have two 30 P-1's pending, as well as a couple of dedicated 5.56 cans. Welcome to your new addiction. I find that I really do not want to shoot unsuppressed anymore.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

I looked at the 30-BA as a dual purpose item... Some of the local shoots don't allow class III items... Therefore a guy might as well ultilize a well made brake (it is pretty efficient). I only wish TBAC would make a thread protector for the O.D threads... One slap of the brake on a barricade and I'm shit out of luck.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

Sweet! Phone call coming your way tomorrow!

Nope, no sarcasm. True it is small compared to others but a little bigger than I wanted. Plus I hunt with my rigs and the chance to stuff in ear pro quick doesn't always present itself. The less blast to my naked ear hole, the better. For a QD system though, TBAC has one that is solid and works. Other brands could use some lessons on how to build such a system.

Zak,

Can you provide a picture of the thread protector? Curious to see the overall design before I order 3.

Thanks much,

Kinnamon

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

i would order a thread protector but since the brake ships to my dealer with my Can, i wont have a need for it for a few months. ill probably order one at that time.

unless the brakes can be shipped directly to the customer?

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

It's probably more trouble than it's worth, since you can pick up the brake once the can arrives at your dealer and you'll still have to wait month on the Form 4. If you really need it separated we can make it happen.

Re: Help me choose my Thunder Beast.

Nice!

A company that listens to the shooting communities needs, offers a stand out product and delivers on time will always have my business. Order sent for 3...

Thanks again Zak.

Just ordered a thread protector. I picked up my brake from my dealer today, unfortunately I must wait until October-ish to pick up my suppressor.
