I am trying to see what is the most velocity and what powder to use. I have a 308 remington

ive seen 2850 through mine but i would never do that again. blew a few primers with that load. i normally keep them between 2700 and 2750. at 2750 there are barely noticable pressure signs

getting 2600fps out of a 16" tube with cfe's twin. pp2000mr
good enough for me. and that was just where my node happend to fall. still 1gr below max.

45.8 grain varget in my tactical (20" factory remington barrel) 2624fps, in my varmint (26" factory barrel) I am about 90 fps faster.

<span style="font-weight: bold">DO NOT use that load above</span> The Varget min is 43grns and max is 46 grns for the 168 AMAX in a .308 per Hodgdon. I am sure it's a mis print but didn't want anyone blowing themselves up.

I would concur and thought the same, but we both appear to have some knowledge of the load range for Varget. For someone new to this powder, and unaware of the dangerously low case density this would cause, things could be very dangerous. Rob was just putting up a prudent warning to those unaware of the problem or potential danger.

Yup, I've used 45gr of Varget with 168 Amax in my 20" 1 in 10" twist.

Yup, I've used 45gr of Varget with 168 Amax in my 20" 1 in 10" twist.

You will have no issues with 1 in 10 and 155's. They are great for the 308 as you can gain a little velocity over some of the heavier bullets and still have a great BC. Have shot lots of game with the 155's in 308 and 250's in 338 with great results.

Thank you, Peters. I like the answer. I have lots of 168 A-Max too, but would like more velocity out my 16". Maybe I will try those 155 scenars you speak of and do some load development on those too. Right now I have IMR 4064 & Hodgdon CFE 223, Have never used Varget so far, I know people really like than one though.
