Well, just wanted to gloat a bit.

I got my JAE 700 stock in last week, and finally got it assembled and new scope mounted. Now I just need to find some time to drive out and wring the rig out. Pretty stoked with it...

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

what was the price tag on that baby?

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

I think it came in around $1200 (or just under)...

Definitely seems on par (if not better) than AI with regards to fit and finish.

I really like the design, and the well laid out adjustments to stock LOP, Cheek rest and magazine well. The mags fit like a glove and feed like sh!t through a goose...

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

Are these chassis readily available now? Meaning no waiting?

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

shit they told me I could expect approx a year last month before delivery. I want one but I rather get a new Can for that wait

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

I think they're predicting 10 months wait now, which is a lot better than it has been to this point.

In some very long, detailed (and amicable) discussions it has been an understandable delay. Since I work in R&D, it's probably easier for me to be sympathetic, as I know what happens when you make/develop something everyone wants; everyone wants it now...

Basically, growing pains happen...in spades. From what I have been told though, I think they're rounding the corner so to speak, and starting to ship product. The success of the JAE 100 stock really hit them hard, both in supplying those, as well as trying to gear up for the 700 line.

I will say that the concept of the collet & cage approach is very appealing to me, and completely makes sense from a production stand point (this is what I believe caused the delays; a redesign of the internal chassis). The problem, as I understand it, was just getting to that point of having a solid enough (design wise) product, to go into full scale production. Everyone always wants this little improvement or that additional feature. As the saying goes, you reach a point where you have to make the call of "Don't let perfection be the enemy of 'good enough'", and call the product good and move forward with going to market.

If I had to make a comparison, I'd say it was the same tough business decision PTG had to make when they were running out of room, and needed to expand. Expansion really causes a lot of issues, and generally none of them are good from a production stand point.

At any rate, despite the long wait I had (four years) I am still very happy with the product. Especially, since this is not the original design I put money down on, though it is a much better and well thought out one IMHO.

Since the chassis is made to support long or short actions, it has an adjustable collet for magazine length. THat bing said, I'm thinking the Alpha Type 2 mags or another longer AICS type mag could be adjusted to fit like a glove in this chassis (which would be a win for those of us who reload, and like a little extra space in the mag).

The quick release cheek piece is nice, and allows the removal without messing with the settings.

Getting the action to settle in the stock the first time was a little challenging at first. This was due to my older 700 action. Though dimensions haven't (in theory) changed on the actions, there is still enough slop that getting the bolt release and the recoil lug lined up in the chassis was a little challenging. I suppose that's a good thing, as it means the stocks dimensions are tight to spec..

Sorry to ramble on, but just was wanting rattle a few things off the top of my head...before they fell on the floor.

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

    Hennig,

LOL! Yeah, but I think Lisa and crew are very confident of the times they're quoting now. I called right after SHOT and bugged her, and the date she gave was only a week off from what they thought then. BTW, I was order #17, so it drove me nuts seeing the first few being delivered to a distributor up in Canada! A couple of weeks later though, and mine came through.

I know they're working 7 days a week most of the time, so now might be the time to let the excitement grr-animals out into the bloodstream just a little bit.

Mine is coming through the Australian distributor, so hopefully those timeframes hold true. I must admit, I was happy to see the Aus distributor selling these at roughly the same price as JAE USA. Its refreshing to not be overcharged for a change.

My #1 problem now is that Ill have to build a rifle to use it with, as I have bought a pair of AICS in the meantime haha. I guess as far as problems go, its a pretty good one to have

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

I have a JAE M14 stock and it is a superb piece of craftsmanship. Lisa and the crew there are beyond excellent with customer service. The wait times are pretty long, but if you call them they may be able to point you to a distributor who has ordered a bunch of stocks earlier in the cue. As someone said above, it's growing pains. They have an excellent product and tons of demand for it.

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

so i talked to them today about delivery times. if i bought one today it will be 10-12 months. they were very nice i just cant sit and wait on a 800 stock for a year. i will sit back and wait to see if they can close this gap in delivery times. she told me to look on gun broker and there is one on there with a buy it now price of 2390.00 wow, i think its made of solid gold!

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

    They are nice.

I had one on am M14 at one point. (Bought the rifle with the stock on it so no wait for me).

The fit and finish was great, and the ergonomics were excellent for me.

I only sold the gun due to wanting a AR based platform.

They are on the short list for one of my builds right now.

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

    shrompman,

Yeah, it's a long wait, but I still feel the product was worth it (to me anyways). I just looked at it, like planting a tree. If you want the shade, it's going to take a while.

I'm not directing this comment/observation at you, but: Doesn't it seem strange that people who pursue the sport of long range shooting, and hang out on a place named "Sniper's Hide" can tend to be so impatient? Having spent quite a bit of time in my life, waiting for something to happen, maybe I just have a oddball way about rationalizing it.

I think I made the comment in another post here: When you go "custom" be prepared to wait, or if you aren't waiting, it isn't "custom".

Not implying anyone is overly whining, or that i don't get impatient myself. Just thought that it was curious, as long range shooting often entails long periods of boredom and anticipation...

No flame intended to anyone in particular...

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

i have one on my m14 and love it. It weighs a ton but its worth it to get the improved accuracy and ergonomics over the factory stock. i wasnt going to get one because of the wait but ended up finding exactly what i wanted on gunbroker. I paid a little extra for it but i didnt have to wait and to me it was worth it.

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

almost looks like AI and McMillan had a baby

    Re: JAE 700 stock...rocks! :)

These stocks are some of the best looking stocks out right now. somewhat modular but still a little more traditional than an AICS or full aluminum chassis. Congrats, looks great!

Anyone else out there in Australia with one of these JAE 700 chassis? I'm very keen to get one.
