For those who think it can't be done!

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Very nice mate. It`s great for people to know that you don`t have to spend a heap of bucks on a custom to shoot small groups, and that`s one very small group!Well done.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

With the right load and shooter absolutely. Like stated above you don't need to drop a fortune to have a tack driver. Savages don't have all the bells and whistles they might not be the prettiest but they do shoot . A rifle is a tool and as with any tool it's the person that's using it that makes or breaks it. I will post pics of the rifle more groups load data etc. as soon as I can.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

seeing this makes me want to get started on a 223 savage build.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I believe every rifle has that perfect load. Sometimes you find it sometimes you don't. The shear number of variables is mind boggling primer, bullet, case, powder combinations. Not to mention seating depth neck tension etc. Some rifles I've been able to find it some I'm still hunting for it, but that's half the fun.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Most of the naysayers are the ones with 5k rifles that can't shoot them.

Trolling.......... Goto a major match and lets see whats up.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I don't need to validate myself to anyone in a d$&k measuring contest. Shooting for me is my get away from the day to day it's something I truly love. If you need video proof I'll take one to the range next time. There are always people that get angry when others can best them. No matter how good you think you are there is someone better. I do what I do because I love it not for trophies and awards. I don't need that.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

You're making it really hard for me to not buy that 10FCP McMillan I've been eying. Great shooting!

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

That's a great group to keep in your wallet. It's nice to be able to brag a little bit. You will find that a more true measure of a rifles accuracy is along the lines of what they do in benchrest shooting.

Five consecutive targets each with a five shot group. That's right, 25 shots in a row, in a limited amount of time. Take the average of those five groups and you have something. It's a much higher standard of measure and you'll see why great accuracy is so difficult to obtain.

Apparently you do.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

That is some great shooting. How did you do it as in was it from a bench, prone, with a rear bag...it does matter. If I ever shoot a group like that at the range I just gather up all my stuff and leave. There is now way I am going to best that ans it is just going to go downhill after that.

Good groups are always nice...but the above advice will show a rifles/shooters true performance.
Competeing in a match will also show shooters ability compared to other shooters and weather condititions that day...

nice shooting

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I posted this group not to brag, but to show people you don't need to drop a ton of money to shoot really well. The conditions I shot that in yesterday were amazing, my wind flag wasn't even twitching. Comp. shooting isn't what I prefer to do if that's your thing have fun with it. I knew I was going to piss in someone's Cheerios when I put this up, but I run into people like that at the range all the time. If you new the amount of man hours I had in loading these rounds people may not be to quick to judge. The rounds I load for my 5 shot groups are within a 10th of a grain of each other-the whole round.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

How many shots of load development and how many tries did it take to shoot this group out of the rifle?

Was it your first group of the day to include the first shot of the day?

The amount of man hours you referenced is the difference if you want to know why not,

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

2nd group I shot 6 rounds before this 5 shot group. One round to see where the poi was then a group then this group. I'll post a post a pick of the prev. group everything was the same with those round but just a slightly heavy powder charge.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

20 rds of a diff. Reload were fired before these. 11 shots.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I have 625 rds through this particular rifle not including break in.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

If every round isn't exact the don't get segregated for my 5 shot groups I'll use them for seeing if the rifle likes them first. I have just as much fun reloading as I do shooting. I realize some people don't or won't want to put the man hours into being that anal but I find it enjoyable. Mabye it's OCD I weigh primers ha ha.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

That right there is the difference and what people are talking about...

For example, Tac Ops doesn't break in their barrels and with factory ammo shoot this,

412395_10150806686392953_2114410821_o.jpg

Less than 20 rounds out of the gun, with factory ammo. all the same gun.

Proofing several AI AX rifles they shoot stuff like this, again, less than 20 round out of the gun with factory ammo (10 shot group)

466435_10150869765292953_1634336557_o.jpg

Nothing wrong with a Savage, nothing wrong with doing 625 rounds of load development to include all the man hours, but when you shoot factory 308 by the case load you want a rifle that can handle it, immediately right out of the box. No break in, no development from day one, heck I haven't broke in a barrel in years, well one 6.5 barrel needed it, but with a 308, never heard of needing it with a custom stick.

That is what you are paying for... no offense, but this is what people don't get.

Congrats on finding a load... now stop developing and take it out and test yourself with the rifle and load combo against others.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

When I get a new rifle with a familiar caliber I've load before I start with a load I know shoots generally well; then tweak it if I still don't get the desired results I move to another load I have in mind and so on and so fourth. Sometimes I find that special round sometimes I don't.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Very nice group and I agree with you. But Im kind of odd in that if a gap or AI shoots well that's a given people say its a big money rifle. I have fun doing it with something people say I'd didn't know you could do that with that. That's part of the fun of it. I love the big money guns I have a few and I expect them to shoot and shoot well but it's more fun to me to shoot as well if not better than said guns with something far cheaper that's the competition I have with myself.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

As for break in it was quick tubbs final finish rounds done.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Fantastic shooting. I don't care if came from a $5000 dollar rifle or a broomstick. Awesome.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Good shooting, man.

It's probably not a good thing, but there may come a day when those itty bitty groups don't strike you as a being a big deal.

I don't chase the perfect load anymore. First, I choose the bullet I want to use. Next, I choose a temp stable powder. When that combo will do four five shot groups sub 1/2 moa I call it good. It normally takes less than a hundred rounds.

I'm glad you enjoy the chase. It's just not for me anymore. Not trying to steal your thunder.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Nice shooting. Spend time shooting rather than chasing expensive equipment.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I just finished putting together a rig from a Stevens 200. I call her Shaniqua. She really doesn't look bad and I am eager to finger bang her.
Is this project gonna turn me into a slobbering, sycophantic ass licking wackjob? Will I be compelled to include all results, or will I conveniently measure her by a couple tiny points of data, and call that her "all day long" demeanor?

Nice group. Are you sure they are 5 shots? You told us the wind flags weren't moving at all, it says wind speed 3.2 at the top of your target.

I love my Savage rifles! I would also love to own one of the 5000.00 dollar rifles that some of these guys shoot. I think it boils down to pride of ownership with one of those also. I could buy one probably, but for me I do not think I would ever shoot it enough.

Good shooting.

ETA: Not sure why the first picture doesn't show up. Maybe because it is mobile photobucket.

+1 and it's the same group I'd continue to refer to on The Hide for the rest of my life

Nice shooting, dude.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

That's what the generic condition data was on my phone for the area, but where I was there was 0 wind the engineer tape I had stapled to the target stand didn't budge at all. I prefer to read the conditions as there happening.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

I shot from the bench with a bipod and rear bag. I don't like the lead sleds etc. I think it takes too much of the shooter out of the equation.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Next time I get to the range I'll post 5 consecutive groups. I didn't think this would get as heated as it has. I did it to show its possible to shoot groups like this without having to rape your wallet that's all. Sometimes even in production rifles you find a gem. If you take 200 of the same model AI rifles there will always be those few that can out shoot the rest.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

LOL, these post really amuse me to no end ! If you shoot well with less $$$ spent ,you are hated on here ?

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

That's what I've come to figure out. But I run into people like that at the range all the time. I actually ran into a guy that said my scope cost more than your whole rifle. So I told him to put his money where his mouth was needless to say he wasn't talking shit anymore.

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Yeah they say bring them,[Savage's] out to the matches , at our last monthly match ,60 some shooters ,I think 6 or 7 out of the top ten were Savage's ,4 that I screwed together ,#1 , #5,and two tied at 8th so I liked it ! Keep up the good shooting !

Re: For those who think it can't be done!

Savages dollar for dollar can't be beat in my opinion. They make a quality rifle that can more than get the job done.
