Before yesterday I have never been emotionally moved to shed a tear watching movies....but last night, it got me!
The movie was Memorial Day. Yeah, I don't think it was a blockbuster, and the acting was marginal, and I don't have a clue how militarily accurate it was, but when the grandpa started sharing his stories of WW2, that brought a flood of memories of my grandpa told me the when I was a kid.
My grandpa died not knowing anyone, (which was heartbreaking) just like Bud in the movie, and when "Bud" died, I was crying like a baby. I felt embarrassed and looked over at the wife, and she was balling!
Just thought I'd share my awkward moments, and just wondering if you Manly men here have ever cried watching a movie, or is my wife slipping me estrogen pills??

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

Why do you think they call them tear jerkers.
My dad is 92 and a WWII vet. Mom died almost a year ago. All of dad's brothers and sisters are gone, and almost all of his friends are gone, and those left are unable to visit. I try my best to keep him company, but I only have so much time.
Growing old is not for wimps.

Sounds to me like you were more mourning your grandpa than crying over a movie. The movie merely reminded you of a memory which obviously has great emotion attached to its remembrance.

If you'd said you busted out bawling when Jimmy dumped Sarah and your wife looked at you like she just realized she married a lesbian... yeah, I could see the concern.

Next, on Sniper's Hide: Men who admit to washing up the pots and pans after dinner!

There's nothing wrong with displaying emotions when appropriate. Just don't let it get the better of you.

All it takes is for me to hear "Taps" in a movie or elsewhere and my allergies start getting the best of me.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

At the end of Band of Brothers when the vets are talking and Major Winters breaks down, gets me, can't help it. Reminds me of my Grandfather and my father at his funeral, only time i've ever seen the ole man cry. Hard to watch a man like Major winters, a man of that statue break down.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

    Not admitting to anything...

But for impact I have to say the scene in Schindler's list where the little girl is yelling at the departing rail cattle cars, packed with people destined for extermination, "Goodbye Jews!", still sticks in my mind.

I'm not sure why but to me it's a vision of hell where a child is inured to monstrous, systemic cruelty.

And I didn't like the scene in Fried Green Tomatoes where the kid gets killed by the train...

The end of,"Vanishing Point" where the white Hemi Challenger gets destroyed. Gets Me every time.

Hearing it played over the grave of a fallen comrade has an effect I can't describe.

100% agree. I watched the entire series recently and the way they all spoke of their time in the service, their friends, and realizing by the time that they were my age now (25) they had affected the world more than I will in my entire lifetime gets to me every time.

While I know the value I add and the job I do is important stateside, I can not help but awe at the people who volunteer to put themselves in harms way on my behalf, to expose themselves to the horrors of war all for an ideal they know they may never live to see realized.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

The movie that tore me up was "Taking Chance." Fuck, that was hard to watch. I was a train wreck after that thing, but loved it.

Amen, one of the best movies ever IMO.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

I cry all the time at the movies, except its at the ticket window paying to get in.

Then again at the snack shack.

By the time I see the movie I have no tears or money left.

read a study once about how once you become a father your body changes chemically - your testosterone will lower amongst other things - honestly its all based around evolution making you a better more caring dad - if it didnt happen you would be one of those low life dads that never see their kids or help raise them

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

Not the movie, but the book The Road. The scene with the father and son (don't want to ruin it for those who don't know the ending). It reminds me that the core of being a father is to educate my son in being prepared for the world and able to succeed no matter the obstacles.

For movies - Apocalypto. The kids by the river bed... damn... can't watch that movie again, heck I don't need to, almost every scene is seared into my memory. What a stunning film.

I had forgotten about Apocalypto. That movie was rough. Am I the only one that cheered when the conquistadors' ships showed up on the horizon?

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

Look real real hard at the end of Vanishing Point. It's a '68 Camaro they smash into the dozers. Dodge wouldn't give them any more Challengers 'cause they wrecked all of 'em that Dodge promoted them.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

The movie Hall Pass had me really tore up. The whole time I thought they were going to get some young strange and it turns out the only one to get any was one of their wives! Why did I waste 2 hrs of an otherwise perfectly good Saturday afternoon. Why dammit, WHY?!?!

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

Not a movie, but the father of a good friend passed away about a year and a half ago, he was a WW II vet and was buried at Tahoma National Cemetary here in Maple Valley with full military honors. Man, it was one of the most moving things I have ever experienced. When they blew Taps and fired the salute, my wife and I were both choked up. My wife and I are active in the Soldier's Angels organization and have since gone to a couple of memorial services at JBLM for some fallen ones. One was for a soldier from the 2nd Rangers and they really did him proud. Everyone should attend one of these IMO.

Re: "I cried watching a movie" WTF!!!!

Second Hand Lions - the scene, by the pond, where the nephew is begging his uncle to stick around. He wants his uncle to finish the being a man story when he comes of age. Robert Duvall was great in this movie.
