Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Mine's a Kimber 84M Montana in 260 Remington. Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 with LR Duplex in Talley Lightweight one piece rings. 6 lbs ready to go.

The BDC reticle matches my 130 grain Berger VLD load within an inch out to 500 yards, very convenient and easy to hunt with setup.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

I have 2 depending on terrain. Howa 1500 with SS10x in 25-06 or Marlin 336 30-30 with irons.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Am in the middle of building mine. R700 308 with 16" barrel, HS Precision stock, Leupold VX2 2-7X33. Should have it all together this weekend to weigh. I got it as an SPS and had the barrel cut down. Having flutes cut so it should cut the weight down on that heavy barrel a bit. Whatever it weighs, it'll be less than my .300WM weighing in at 18.8lbs. It's got Atlasworks DBM and Alpha Ind mags so it's a bit of a scout/tactical style but it'll hopefully be half the weight of my .300. Oregon has thick brush and I hate busting it with that giant in my hands:)

Since I broke my back light weight is what I have strived for. I started making a Slip Cuff Quick Release Sling in lighter weight Multicam and really like it. Add that to Edge stock and #5 taper barrel and nice and light

Interesting, yet uncommon choice......One of my two lightweight rigs is a Colt light rifle in .30-06. It's plenty accurate, very light and has killed many a critter. Well worth the $400 new in box price I paid many years ago.

My current lightweight is a very customized/skeletonized (receiver shaved down, bolt handle drilled out, no floorplate, lightweight pencil barrel, skinny mcmillan stock) 700 in .338winmag with a 2.5-8 Zeiss scope. Total weight is a smidge over 6lbs. NOT FUN TO ZERO - fortunately it's always held it's zero, despite what the last batch of horses tried doing to her. So a couple rounds a year to confirm all is well - the rest go into meat.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

6.8 SPC AR-15
12.5" AR Performance Barrel
Mega Receivers
Troy Alpha Rail
Magpul CTR Stock
Geissele SSA-E Trigger
Zeiss Conquest 3-9X

It isn't a long range setup, but it is extremely handy and deadly from the 0-300yds it is intended for.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Blaser R93 with carbon stock and carbon wrapped barrel. Chambered in 6.5x284.

About 1-1.5 pounds lighter than a normally stocked and barreled one. A pleasure to carry and shoot.

Very accurate also.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

We don't get many long shots in the mountains where I hunt. 100yds is about the max you can expect with 50yds being the average while hunting whitetails. I carry a Remington model 7 LS in 7mm-08 with a 20" pencil barrel and a laminate stock. I have a Nikon Buckmasters 4x-12x-50 SF mounted on it in Leupold windage adjustable 1 piece base and dovetail rings. It stacks 140gr SGK's in nice little clusters at 100yds. Rifle shown with different Swift scope now in the trash.

For predator hunting, I just picked up a rare little nugget of a 17remington Model 7 in a Walnut stock with an 18.5" barrel. They were only made 2 years. It is also a good shooter and is topped with the same Leupold base and rings with a Nikon Prostaff 3x-9x-50mm scope. I'm hoping to change the stock out to a laminate like the other soon and put up the softer, original walnut. This rifle will put 25gr. Bergers in sub .75" groups routinely at 100yds and rarely exits the groundhogs or predators I've shot so far. this rifle also shown with old Pentax scope that has been swapped out.

Both rifles are short and sweet and shoot great in hunting situations where barrel heat isn't a factor. I can carry these all day and not notice their weight.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

I use a Tikka T3 Lite in 243 and a HS PHL in 300WSM. The 243 is more fun to shoot.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

This year I'm going light. Got a Savage LW hunter in .308 with Talley LW mounts and a Burris Tac30 3x9. About 6.5# with scope. Got on a scale holding my Rem LTR W/5R stock, w/Vortex and weighed, then got on the scale and weighed holding the Savage and was 6# lighter. It's roughly half the weight.

Be safe,

Have 2 depending on location, browning x-bolt .300 wsm w/ swarovski z5 3.3-18, noveske afghan 6.8 14.5 " barrel w/ leupold vx3 1.5-5

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

My light package is the savage 11 lightweight hunter that I topped with a leupold mark 4 3-9 36mm illuminated in leupold rings. For .308 it's quite light and with the terrain and thick woods here it's a pleasure to carry. Not much of a range shooter though. Zero it and go.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Bump.
I'm thinking about a rem 700 in .308. I would like to have a 10 twist barrel that is .750 at 20". I'm thinking the 10 twist would let me hand load some 110gr to 220gr loads for whatever animal is being hunted. Maybe some kind of carbon filled stock and a durable brand BDL bottom metal. Any one have a set up similar to this?

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Savage M11, .243, Nikon 6-18x44 SF mil dot scope, EGW 20 moa base.
Savage M11, 7mm-08, 4-16x44 scope. Both are easy carry all day.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

What I'm packing out tomorrow, 700 CDL Mountain, 22 inch pencil barrel in 7mm-08 topped with Nikon Monarch 3-12, shooting 139 SSTs. Wisconsin opener tomorrow, can't wait!

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

Another favorite of mine besides the FN is a Remington 600 Mowhawk in 243, short light and fun to carry.

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

GAP Non-typical on a Remington 700 in 7-08, Bartlein #3 @ 24", Manners SL with APA RTG BM, Swaro Z3 3-12BT comes in at around 8.5-9lbs on a bathroom scale. Not a super-lightweight rig, but lighter than all most of my other rigs. Shoots like a dream!

Re: light weight hunting package List your favorite

I'm in the process of building mine, savage axis as the base. And that's all I have so far LOL
