Hunting & Fishing Didn't make the Wyoming draw for antelope

Planning my first big game hunt... was going to do a combo cow elk and antelope hunt in Wyoming. Got the cow tag for an area 84 horseback hunt but didn't draw the antelope tag. Damn.

At least we'll have a freezer full of elk! (thinking positive here).

You can always buy left over tags this month.

Guide told me that there weren't any left over this year. Don't know if that's state-wide or just the area we're going to hunt but I figure he wouldn't make it up since it's costing him money not having me hunt a 2nd animal.

From what I've been hearing, a lot of units have sold out of goat tags after the initial lottery, more than normal I guess.

Interesting! this is the first year I wasnt able to draw a tag this year aswell, infact there was only one out of six that did draw in our group.

Bad year for animals so the number of tags is down, or a whole lot more hunters than usual going after tags, or ?

I bolo'd in Wyoming this year as well. I have heard the numbers are down from years previous.

Antelope hunting in Wyoming is one of the things I look forward to every year. I looked and they have some left over tags for the unit I hunt in.

Leftover tags went on sale 17 JULY 2012 (today) at 0800 MDT. I picked up three reduced price doe/fawn tags for people in my group, $34 for a non-resident, not too shabby. These are will be the first animals I hammer with my new .257 AI.

Keep checking. With a mild winter and hot dry summer and more then our share of fires, I heard they were going to add more tags to try and thin them out a bit.

Which hunt areas?

Take a look at some of the central units - have a lot more private land but with good maps/gps you can find some good hunting. Also check into the Walk-in or Hunter Access areas in those units, can be fun if you find a good spot.

montana is still a bit short in numbers from two years ago. i did not draw a buck tag buck did get a doe tag??? i hope this doesnt make sense to you either.
